Reviews:

Josh Woodward:

Guster rocks, they just do. :-) Good intellectual rock.

Two guys with acoustic guitars and a bongo player? Not nearly as dull as it sounds.. they sound like a full rock band, and have some quite heavy songs. They've been getting really popular lately, so you may have heard their "Fa Fa Song" or "Barrel Of A Gun" on the radio. Their newest CD, "Lost and Gone Forever", is one of the most brilliant CDs I've ever heard. Buy it. Now.

Taylor nelsoN:

It's amazing what you can do with two guitars and bongos!

My pal Maggie sent me an MP of "Barrel of a Gun" and I wasn't really eager to find new music at the time, but I gave it a listen and was blown away! The next day I rushed out and bought _Lost and Gone Forever_!

Kat Kunz:

yummy, pure pop with great harmonies and incredibly catchy musical settings.

i don't have a whole lot to add, i guess, other than "i like guster" and "lost and gone forever is fantastic". so, um, buy it. NOW.

M.J. (truztno1):

One of a kind pop that'll have you hooked...

Although i wasn't very impressed with Guster my first listen, the second time around immediately had me hooked... for any newbies, I'd definately suggest "Fa Fa" off of _Lost and Gone Forever_... very DMB-esque, but better, IMO... awesome percussion gives it a unique groove, and the addition of trumpet, flute, acoustic guitars, & bongos all jamming together makes it an unforgettable track... Most Frheads, never mind mainstream listeners will *not* regret getting their latest album; it's pure pop/rock brilliance.

Mike "Racer" Yoshioka:

Excellent albums, and so much fun live.

I'm hooked. Guster has blown me away. And their live act is so much fun. They throw in teasers of cover songs, which are just a blast. And they have fun up there. That enthusiasm carries out into the audience. Plus they have the Thundergod. 'Nuff said.

not that you care:

I had this dream...

the THUNDERGOD (i feel the need to capitalize that) was dressed up all pretty in heels and a lovely red dress. he had to wear panty hose cos he didnt want to shave. so i sent him a little e-amil about this dream. i haven't heard back from him yet. did i mention i really like Guster? my friend Amy is a Guster rep.. if you want their CDs from her... kinda cheap ($10) drop her an e-mail @ [email protected]. tell her sarah sent you. i hope she doesnt mind that i just gave out her address to all of FHDC...

Lauren Teson:

Percussion played powerfully!

A friend of mine took me to one of their shows and I was blown away by the percussionist! To see someone get so worked up and involved in what he was doing... wow! I picked up a CD a few days later and So long became one of my favorites...

Kerri Chyka:

live show kings

Well, the first time I saw Guster, it was at BU. I didn't know that much about them, and I had some free time that Saturday, so I was like "I'll check them out." Little did I know that I was in for such a dynamic and very very long and exciting live show. MY do I dig the drummer. ANYWAYS, they were awesome and the audience was soo into it. A very happy group we were. 2nd time I saw them they opened for the Hip and were amazingly well- received.

Maggie Deegan:

the big friend(s)

wow, incredible. the big friend is the guy on the cover of parachute. i wish i knew enough about the band to give a story behind him, but i don't. trust me in that he's cute. any group of guys that has a well-loved stuffed animal on the cover of their cd is *fantastical*. besides that, they're great. pretty acoustic, generally soft, but they can rock out. yay for the THUNDERGOD. (btw, i got my cds cheap from sarah's friend, the guster rep for cheap... you get stickers if you order thru her!)

Michael (foof) Maki:

If I read the word "intellectual" one more time...

Great full-on no-bullshit pop. Catchy tunes, great lyrics.

Andrea Krause:

Incredible full sound, catchy as hell music

Guster rocks! They have great songs and a sound that defies their lineup. Lost and Gone Forever is one of those rare albums that I absolutely love from start to finish, with no lulls. A really excellent find. Their older albums are also very good!

Shelly Haefele:

I want to see them live...

I heard they're great in person from lots of people. I have a friend that's obsessed with burning cds, he introduced me to all of Guster. I could have listened to that cd for years... if it wasn't for the guilt that came over me after all that Napster stuff. ;) I never seem to get sick of their music... unlike many other bands where their cd collects dust for a while when I just can't take anymore of it.

Steph Strenger:

Guster plays a typewriter

Yes, on their new album they do. But besides that, they are a great band that I recommend to people who like more mainstream stuff. They are a great precursor to other not-as-well-known bands.

Caroline Picker:

fabulous

Guster is awesome, not as clever as fruvous, but goofy and fun, with some hilarious covers.

Maddy The Hitman:

i'm a rep too!

my name is "The Hitman" very nice band. so? no, there's more. they rock.

bee:

buy now, pay later

i just recently got into guster, but i must say, they rock! i love the album "lost and gone forever". i'm so glad i took my friends advice and started listening to them.

John Kelly:

They have many albums

If you like "Lost and Gone Forever," check out their other two albums. Parachute(1994) is a masterpiece, with songs that will have you singing at work or class, like "Love for me," "Window," and "Cocoon." Also, Goldfly(1998) is an amazing piece of music. From that, check out "Airport Song," "Perfect," "Getting Even," and the invigorating, "Great Escape." Guster is one of the most underappreciated bands in existence now. Check them out.

Carly Costanza:

these guys are soooooo good! no wonder they're touring with BNL

I met up with Taylor before the 10/11 Barenaked Ladies show and he told me that I would love Guster. I most definitely did! I have "Goldfly" and "Lost and Gone Forever" and they are awesome! They had so much energy...the drummer was amazing! I really like "Barrel of a Gun" and "What You Wish For."

Nicole the Wonder Nerd:

I'm a convert, too!

There was just one band in the top 10 that I hadn't yet checked out, so off I went to the music store in search of Guster. And they really are "all that", so to speak, so add my voice to the chorus of Guster-fans.

Kate Leahy:

Just a further note . . .

Guster is on a six-week tour and will be going into the studio this summer! Yay! New album!

Adam Prestin:

Tough to diss

Some of their songs could be more structurally complex, but they're talented musicians, excellent songwriters, and very responsive to their fans. Check them out!

Marissa Berlin:

wuss rok

Most people that know fru know gus. But if you don't, they're this great alt-folk-rock band. Two guitars and a set of bongos are used to produce some of the most amazing sounds yo'll ever hear. (And this, right here, is why I'll never, ever be a music reviewer. 'Cause I suck.)

Brocktoon:

two guitars+bongos+fun stage show=great band

Unique folkish rock trio ("wuss rock" if you will) defined by the lack of a traditional drumset. Bongos and accousitcs abound. They also put on one hell of a show!

Mark:

How can they only have one review?

These guys are awesome! Go buy there stuff! Really entertaining live, despite their drunk fratboy crowd

angelmusicmaven:

DUH!

that's all I have to say. Go check them out.

lawrence:

great sound and amazing percussion work.

I bought "Lost and Gone Forever" on a whim when I was buying lots of stuff from CDNow and loved it. Since then, I've picked up their other albums and love them all. It's amazing what you can get from a "non-standard" instrumental arrangement. (much more variety in percussion than with a standard drum kit, too)

Bruce Rose:

One of the late conversions

Believe it or not, I bought Lost And Gone Forever on FHDC recommendation, but didn't listen to it until I'd loaned it out and gotten their positive endorsement. Color me converted... Guster rocks!

goovie is married!:

yeah. all that stuff.

Guster took awhile to grow on me, but now I love them. Lost and Gone Forever is probably one of my favorite albums of last year, and "Barrel of a Gun" makes it onto most of my mix tapes for myself and for my friends. Catchy and fun music that rocks way more than you might expect.

Neil Halvorsen:

No one rocks quite like Guster.

Jody:

Guster I adore.

nate...:

all the above.
I got into Guster through Becca. Saw them play at Middlebury before I knew any of their stuff, and they have since become one of my favorite groups.

The first three albums are AWESOME, with L&GF probably being my favorite. The new album I'm not a huge fan of.
