Reviews:

anna adler:

real music.

if you don't like the hip, you're probably deaf.

Kat Kunz:

a whole spectrum of rock, from softer acoustic to flat out *rawk*.

as someone very astutely pointed out a couple years ago when i was first getting into these guys, the lead singer is almost impossible to understand sometimes, but if you can get past that, there's lots of good, catchy music to be found here. check out trouble at the henhouse or phantom power, my 2 favorite discs.

Anita Szostak:

Rock that's like a cross between Grateful Dead and The Doors

The Hip have quickly become one of my favorite bands . As well as the albums Kat recommended I'd suggest their live album..."Live Between Us". It has so many great songs like Gift Shop, Ahead by a Century and Don't Wake Daddy in concert settin

Kerri Chyka:

obscure, gimmickless, and absolutely fantastic

I enjoy the Hip ery much and have been amazed every time that I have seen them in concert. Subjects of songs include John Cage, the Leafs wining the Stanley Cup, the Grand Canyon. Their lyrics are quite intriguing, and like Kat said- sometimes you may not fully understand them. But if you were to read the lyrics to yourself without the groovy music, you would have some truly original and innovative poetry. Hip Hip HOORAY!

Mike "Racer" Yoshioka:

Songs about hockey. Good enough for me ;)

You said you didn't give a f*ck about hockey, well I'd never heard someone say that before. You held my hand and we walked home the long way, you were loosening my grip on Bobby Or. - Fireworks -

Mosch:

Great on Album, even better Live

Saw 'em live for the first time a few weeks ago, and loved it! These guys inspired me to quickly pick up a bunch of their albums and my headphones have been playing them constantly ever since. Guitars, Hockey References, it's great stuff.

K-Lyn:

With a name like that how can you go wrong?

I'm counting down the days till my first live hip show. Can't wait. If they are that great on disc this is gonna blow my mind!

Marie-Claude:

Hip, hip, hooray!

Josh Drury:

Arguavly one one the greatest bands on the planet

The Hip are one of the best bands out there, and have been remarkably consistent, putting out a great album every few years since 1989 (sorry, their self-titled album is sub-par). And of course, can't forget their live shows. If you live in Canada, they're a major event, but if you live in the States, you can often see them play for only a few hundred in a small setting. Definitely worth seeing!
