Reviews:

Kat Kunz:

acoustic guitar songstress and mistress of the folk music scene

this woman is terribly talented. from her acoustic beginnings (her first album, the honesty room, is basically her and a guitar) to her full band efforts (look for her newest, the green world, this fall), she is simply amazing (and conveys a message with her music, as well).

Misch:

Fallen in love with Dar...

Dar's music is more than just lyrics set to music. Her words are stories carefully crafted to fit music that creates a vivid picture in your mind of what she feels. Her performance brings cheers from young and old everywhere she tours. Her album Mortal City features backup vocals from The Nields.

mickey:

multi-layered beauty.

dar williams, more than most, embodies the joy of playing music. watching her play makes me wiggle with happiness.

Josh Woodward:

Georgous music..

It's all true, Dar is *the* folk diva of the modern ages. You probably know of her, but if not please do check her out. You won't be disappointed. :-)

danced with Lazlo:

The most beautiful woman alive...

well, close anyway. Dar's music is just so great to listen to at any time whether moping in your room or on the road with your sister. Great singalong stuff as well. Definitely check her out.

elizabeth:

beautiful

the most beautiful woman in todays music... she's truely a goddess. I love all of her albums-including her new one, the green world, which is just amazing. she's a saviour.

Kerri Chyka:

oh so good

My friend at Barnard sent me a tape of early Dar stuff a few years back and I was totally blown away. Saw her live for the first time at the Calumet in Buffalo. Perfect venue, perfect evening. She forgot the lyrics to "Christians and Pagans" and it was so cute. I've never left a concert in such a smiley mood. Gotta love Dar.

Rachel Beck:

I had to revise my review, because I went to hear Dar again in Missouri over my spring break. (Side note: if you happen to be in Columbia, MO, hang out long enough at one of the 9th St. coffeehouses and you're likely to hear a Dar album played in full; they love her there.) The concert was definitely the high point of my vacation--I didn't want it to end. I got _The Green World_ and I can't stop listening to it. "Spring Street," "And a God Descended," and "I Had No Right" have joined my previous list of favorite Dar songs (Mark Rothko, When I Was a Boy, As Cool As I Am). What a poet-- what a voice--what a lovely person.

K-Lyn:

This woman rocks my lovin' world! Better with each album!

Andrea Krause:

Can rock you or folk you but always does it uniquely

I love Dar's music. For a while I couldn't make it through the day without listening to one of her CDs. :) I am very partial to her more uptempo songs, like Alleluia, Party Generation, or Are You Out There, but I also love the slow ones. Dar is a really excellent songwriter and is definitely worth checking out!

Kirstin Slays Vampires:

great vocals and guitar

Read someone else's review. I think she's great. Buy whatever album you want. Everything I've ever heard by her was incredible.

bee:

i heard dar at ffrf and she was amazing! her voice is beautiful, her lyrics are powerful, and she can play the guitar really well. she's also pretty funny. i love her song "the babysitter's here". she's great.

frukid:

ok..I don't know a whole lot about Dar but she is still cool...

OK...I know like only two songs by Dar Williams but they are pretty cool so maybe one day I'll get some more songs! I personaly like February and The Christians and The Pagans...those are the only two songs I know. I really wish I could play acoustic guitar this good!!

Squee:

Absolutely beautiful writing.

The lyrics are gorgeous, all of them. The imagery just doesn't stop. I could fill several sketchbooks just drawing her music.

Megan can't believe it:

Folk mistress, indeed.

Seeing Dar at Oberlin College was one of the high points of my. . .well, life, actually. She came for the annual FolkFest bearing nothing but a sweater, a guitar, and her voice, and I'm pretty sure she borrowed the sweater. Her gorgeous, full, yet still almost translucent voice (Those familiar with her will know what I speak of, I think.) rocked us and hushed us by turns. From acoustic beginnings in "The Honesty Room" to her latest album, "The Green World," in which she displays leanings toward intelligent pop, I've learned one hasn't lived musically until one's listened to and experienced Dar Williams.

Bruce Rose:

Speaking from experience... everyone loves Dar!

Dar has a way of singing to people about people that leaves me speechless. Vocal power unlike anyone else, strong writing, stronger playing. The only real complaint I can come up with is that she hasn't played Indiana in three years!

lawrence:

singer, songwriter, storyteller

amazing stuff. great guitar work, and an incredible voice, and excellent lyrics - sometimes humourous, sometimes serious, always with a point. Go buy her CDs and get to shows. You won't be disappointed.

Gordondon son of Ethelred:

Distinctive vocal style and brilliant songs

I've been following Dar from the beginning but with the release of her Latest Album, "Green World" she is becoming an obsession. I saw two of her Three recent Bottom Line Gigs and regretted I couldn't see all three. "What do you love more than love" Dar would be a good answer.

goovie is married!:

"The Christians and the Pagans" changed my life

Melodramatic but true. I heard "CP" for the first time and was instantly captivated. Just as I had decided to give up on all modern music and instead hide in a classic-rock radio cocoon, I discovered that there was a whole world of smart, talented musicians out there that I had never heard. Dar's voice is gorgeous, and her songs still affect me now as much as they did years ago. And hey, if I had never discovered Dar's stuff, I never would've discovered Fruvous. :)
