Random Musings 5-21-98

Well, after being told that I'd better update this page, as it had been over a month, here's the latest edition.

I just got my copy of the latest Mono Puff CD, "It's Fun to Steal"! Yes!! For all those unfortunate enough not to know who Mono Puff are, it's John Flansburgh (from non other than They Might be Giants)'s very cool side band. As their CDs are a little hard to find, my odyssey in actually finding it is as follows:

I originally went to Best Buy thinking they might have it, cause I'd seen Unsupervised (their first cd) there...and to my disappointment, no It's Fun to Steal (but the copy of Unsupervised was gone!! Is there another Mono Puff/TMBG loving person in my town? wow!)...anyways, I then trekked over to Borders, and after looking in the racks (no dice) asked the stoned-looking guy at the counter if they had a copy. Getting the response, "uh...what? mono...mono...who? what?" I repeated, "mono puff" and he looked in the computer. "yeah...we've got a copy...did you look in the racks?" well, he eventually looked in the back, and didn't find it, and told me that a borders across town had a copy.

So I went across town...and asked another stoned looking guy at the other borders (notice a trend here?) if they had it, after finding only Unsupervised on the shelf (wow, I hadn't realized so many stores had that one)...he conferred with his co worker for a few seconds, and said it wasn't unpacked, but he'd look in the back...but if he couldn't find it, I'd have to come back later (I was screaming "NO!" in my head)...but then he walked back out of the storage room a few minutes later looking triumphant...I thanked him profusely, as he tried to put on of those plastic no steal things on the CD, declared "f--- it" and gave me the cd without the thing. I was tempted to walk out of the store, testing the title of the CD (it's fun to steal), but decided not to...paid for it and walked out of the store with a goofy smile on my face. And went to 7-11 for a celebratory slurpee, and am listening to the CD as I type. Yes!

In just a few days (June 12th) I will be (in the words of my history teacher) embarking on an adventure of the first magnitude, and will be headed off to Munich for the summer. Should prove to be an interesting time all around! Hopefully I'll be able to speak so people can understand me and don't make fun of the stupid american :-) Tee hee. Oh well. I'll keep you updated as things progress!

"The beauty of
A felt tip pen
The comfort found
In imaginary friends
I've been all around this crummy world
And no one will defend
The comfort found
In imaginary friends"
