The World as I Know It

Okay, everyone, this is my first of probably a great many steps to move my page from the AOL press thing to Geocities. My reasons for doing this are multiple, reasons include that I'll be able to update my page when I'm not on AOL, the AOL press thing is very temperamental, and doesn't like to let me update my page as frequently as I'd like to, and I decided it was time for a little change. This page right here was difficult to make, but I imagine it will get a lot easier as I get more practice. Anyway, that's why this page is on a Geocities address. My Geocities name is TanzenNancy, which is Dancing Nancy in german (I'm a Dave Matthews fan till the end)...Well, enjoy this week's column!!!

The World as I Know it is going to be a page where I write my opinions on the stuff that happens to me every day, so you can come hear about stuff that I think is really cool, stuff that bothers me, and everything else that doesn't fit into either of those two categories. If you have anything you want posted here, email me and let me know, and I might put it on this page! I'm including a pic of the week, quote of the week, link of the week, and when I actually figure out how to do this, a wav or midi of the week.
Okay...so maybe this page is not exactly weekly. It will be updated when I actually get around to finding all this new stuff. All right? Okay then! =) on with the show!

I would just like to state that I really love music. The ony time that I have come even close to spending a long time without music was this recent summer, where I attended a camp where we spoke nothing but German for a month, and weren't allowed to hear or speak any english. But we did hear German music (which left me with a strange, unnatural attraction to the 80's German pop star Falco, but that's another story entirely) Anyways, as you all have probably seen from the main page, my favorite band that I think are just the most wonderful musicians to ever walk this earth, are Dave Matthews Band. But, as of now, all my DMB CDs are on a temporary sabbatical in my CD racks, because they have been abused by me and listened to WAY too many times (they were the only ones that I could stand after my German experience...but as I said, that's another story) Anyways, I wanted to devote this weeks column to my second favorite band (well actually there are three of them, I love them all a lot exactly the same amout :-) , They Might be Giants, Crash Test Dummies, and Jars of Clay.

They Might Be Giants-- TMBG.COM
I have gotten into this group only recently. Well, not exactly. I did buy John Henry a little while after it came out, listened to it incessantly for a little while, put it down on a table one day, and promptly lost it. I guess it would be the beginning of this summer, about June, when I got Factory Showroom and Flood. I would say Flood is the best of the TMBG CDs I own, but the other two were both wonderful in their own ways. I like TMBG because their music style isn't mainstream, and it's catchy and cool. I'm just upset right now because they're having a concert near me this weekend and I'll be out of town. Sigh. next time.

Crash Test Dummies-- CTD
I got God Shuffled His Feet a little while after the single mmm mmm mmm mmm came out, I thought the song was okay, but not all that great. It is definately not the best one on the CD, but the whole CD is just great. I guess I have a lot of memories that go along with this CD, I can remember 3 years ago when I was in Germany with one of my friends, and we stayed at my aunt's house, and we sat on the floor of my cousins room when he was at a party, and drank a beer, and played cards, and listened to this. :-) Also, in 7th grade, on a camping trip with a bunch of people from my school it was listened to frequently.
God shuffled his Feet isn't the only CTD CD I have, I have all three of theirs, but it is the best. The Ghosts that Haunt Me, their first CD, and A Worm's Life, their latest which came out last year, are both good too. I like CTD cause of Brad Roberts distinctive voice, and the wonderful variety of random instruments they play, the bajo, accordion, mandolin, harmonica, and lots of others. The lyrics also sound like he was high while writing them, they're very offbeat. :-)

Jars of Clay-- Much Afraid
Jars of Clay are a christian group, but I don't really listen to christian music, actually the list stops at them :-) Their 1st self titled CD is really good, and their second, Much Afraid, which just came out, is pretty much the same. I really like the lead singers voice. The only thing that bugs me is their kind of cheapified CD, which has AOL software on it. But nothing's perfect :-)

Okay, those are my 3 second favorite music groups, a little about them and why I like them. All the web sites are pretty good, so visit them!!! That's it for this week, come back next week! Later!
