My kitty!!!

   Discussion: My kitty!!!
K-Lyn · 20 years, 11 months ago

I feel like the biggest dork in the world but I'm having a hard time and Fruheads are the greatest resource out there.

I had to put my cat to sleep last friday. She was 19 and I'd had her since I was 9 and I'm just not coping with this well. I feel like a jerk when the world is at odds and people are dying in horrible ways and all I can do is wail for my lost cat. But I've got to vent somehow...

I had made her picture my thumbnail and when I saw it on my post just now...

Her name was Molly and she was a lovely and loveable fluff ball. Where else can you find unconditional love like that?

Ack...

I know how you feel. When I was 22 I had to put my cat to sleep. I'd had her for 16 years, since I was 6. She was my strength through some very hard years. Someone who loved me no matter what.

5 years later and I still miss her and sometimes still cry when I think of her.

Just...feel your feelings and don't let anyone tell you it's "just a cat". Something you love is never "just" anything.

*hugs*

::Hugs::: Sending sympathy. I know it's really hard. And don't feel guilty about "wailing." You can't help the way you feel. it's human to grieve.

i can't think of many things to say. there are fewer wonderful things than a loving cat, especially as a companion that you grow up with. when a cat is put to sleep or passes away, it's nothing less than the loss of a family member.

i don't own a cat myself, but i'll be the first person who deck someone who claims that it's "just a cat." if my sister ever loses her cat Lily, i guarantee that she'll be beside herself with sorrow.

you shouldn't feel odd or uncomfortable at all. it's plainly obvious that you loved molly to pieces and she obviously loved you in return. don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise, or else they get to deal with me (and portland isn't that far away (: )

hang in there. *hug*

I definitely can identify with you... especially at the moment.

My family's dog, who we got when I was about 14, had to be put to sleep yesterday.
She was a great pup, and lived a very good life.

I remember when we first when and picked her up from the breeder's.... she slept in my lap in the airplane... (my dad was a pilot) .. curled up a little ball no bigger than my fists put together.
Despite the noise and craziness of a new family and a twin engine small plane, she just went right to sleep. We knew she was the dog for us.
:)

I'll never forget her, but right now, I really miss her.
*sigh*

It'll get better, though.... just give it time.
*hugs*

I'm so sorry! *hugs right back*

That's about the only thing keeping me going right now...knowing she had a great and long life. I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything more I could do for her. She only suffered a little that last night...and only because the vet wasn't open yet. She was part of the family, like your dog. It was really beautiful that my mom and dad and I were all with her at the end just like the start.

She chose me at the pet store...I had nothing to do with it. She crawled up my arm and perched on my shoulder and said "let's go home". And then she tried to sleep there. A tiny little black kitten with blazing green eyes.

Another friend suggested a memorial on my website. So when I can handle it I'm gonna go through old photo albums and scan in all her pictures from kittenhood and up.

my guinea pig Kevin, i'd had since age 2 died when i was in 3rd grade, i cried for like 3 days after that and it still makes me sad sometimes, and i know it's cliche, but ya gotta remember the good times. it helped me to hold a memorial service for him.

You're *so* not a dork. In my experience, kitty love is some of the most pure and true love you'll have. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I am sending you warm energy, and good thoughts.

I've had to put two pets to sleep, and even though it was 7 years ago, I still think about mycat Snickers and my dog Snuffy. I've given my heart to other pets since then, but that doesn't make me forget the exact place where Snickie liked to be scratched behind his ear, or Snuffy's favorite place to dig in the backyard.

I believe in angels that purr and lick and wake you up way too early to go for a walk, and love you no matter how bad you feel about yourself that day.She was lucky to have a person who loved her as much as you do. I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you so much for the kind words...I knew this was the right place to go!

My co-workers have ignored me.

My extended family immediately asked if we were getting a new cat!

And my boyfriend doesn't know what to do but hug me...which is good.

All of your comments have really helped me feel like I'm not going insane. Thanks so much everyone. I can feel the love.

Try this webpage http://www.rainbowbridge.com/

and here is a poem:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I know how you feel.

We had to put my 'brother' down at age 13.5 in 1993. He was sick for a few months. When he couldn't walk up the stairs or outside we knew it was time.

The most heartless thing someone asked me was "how much did it cost to bury him in the Pet Cemetery?"

hellooooo Do I ask you how much does it cost to bury a person at a funeral? Some people are just jerks.

Don't worry. You need time to grieve and you are not an idiot. Some don't understand that these are family members and not just "some dumb animal." You will get another pet when you think the time is right. Just don't jump in it too soon. We did and we didn't give ourselves enough time to grieve. It's a horrible time now. Take care and don't be afraid to grieve. Your kitty is still watching over you. :)

*Hugs* I'm so sorry about the loss of your beloved Molly. Give yourself all the time you need to grieve. She's been with you for2/3 of your life, and of course she's important to you -- after all, how many people havebeen around for you, day in and day out,for that long?

Amid all the sadness, know that she was as lucky to have you as loving, responsible caretaker who didn't let her suffer, as you were to have her unconditional love for all those years.

Peace.
