The idea of having a business is to make money, right? So, you grow your business and you hire more people. You are helping the immediate community by providing jobs. Turns out you have a GREAT business plan, so you build more stores. Customers love you! You provide more product and provide more community jobs. You continue to grow, so you continue to branch out. At some point, you need to cover yourself, so you become a limited liability company. You pay some serious bucks to cover your backside in case of liability. This protects your employees, too. What a bonus!
Now, suppose that you are so successful at this point that you want to become incorporated. You have been approached by a group of people who would like to see more of your store/product in more areas. They agree to put up some capital so you can do some serious building/growing. To protect those involved (from the owner to the capital providers to the employees and even the customers) you decide to become a corporation.
BOOM. You are now part of ugly, hated Corporate America. Why? Because you make a profit? You have name brand recognition? You hire a lot of people? You pay a ton in taxes?
Good question, that. (Side note: Walmart is evil. They have taken the steps to overpower and underprice any and all types of business in the world. They've even gone so far as to offer a product IDENTICAL to netflix.com. True story.)
