The idea of having a business is to make money, right?� So, you grow your business and you hire more people.� You are helping the immediate community by providing jobs.� Turns out you have a GREAT business plan, so you build more stores.� Customers love you!� You provide more product and provide more community jobs.� You continue to grow, so you continue to branch out.� At some point, you need to cover yourself, so you become a limited liability company.� You pay some serious bucks to cover your backside in case of liability.� This protects your employees, too.� What a bonus!
Now, suppose that you are so successful at this point that you want to become incorporated.� You have been approached by a group of people who would like to see more of your store/product in more areas.� They agree to put up some capital so you can do some serious building/growing.� To protect those involved (from the owner to the capital providers to the employees and even the customers) you decide to become a corporation.
BOOM.� You are now part of ugly, hated Corporate America.� Why?� Because you make a profit?� You have name brand recognition?� You hire a lot of people?� You pay a ton in taxes?
Good question, that.� (Side note: Walmart is evil.� They have taken the steps to overpower and underprice any and all types of business in the world.� They've even gone so far as to offer a product IDENTICAL to netflix.com.� True story.)
