I really like lots of music from all the options listed. I suspect that this will essentially end up being a poll of what decade people were growing up during...

nope! i was born in '80 but picked the '60s

Same here! though, I s'pose if you want to be technical, it's argued by many that 1980 itself is part of the 70's, not the 80's... either way, I still voted 60's :-P

Mussbe why I like "American Dreams" so much :-P

you know, I'm tempted to say that "Any Idiot" knows that.

but I won't.

I had no idea at the time of the Maple Lounge that that was you who stopped at the table to talk to Sab. I get...easily distracted by certain cute guitar players and stuff. ;)

I voted for the last option. Well, "The Marriage of Figaro" was pop music in its time, you know.
nate... · 20 years, 3 months ago
it really depends... are we talking "popular music"? or "pop music"?

:)
renita Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
i'm going buy "popular music"

because "pop music" as such didn't really start until the 50's/60's.

my interpretation of it anyway.

Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
isn't "pop" just an abbreviation for "pop-ular"?
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

nate likes to get into a debate that pop music is its own genre not necessarily linked to what is popular. Like...a poppy sound.

Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
So pop is bubblegum, right? And popular is... AdCon?
nate... Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
It's not that I like to get into a debate... it's just the case.
:P

Like, The Maggies are not "popular" per se... but they're pop music.

And, like, Eminem is "popular" ... but I wouldn't consider him to be pop music.

i am a child of the 90s. and that's what i went for. sorry. you just cannot deny badass scary english pop acts like the spice girls, take that and peter andre. boyyyyy. :D
emilie is CRANKY Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

oh, and also all those badass scary american pop acts too, like the backstreet boys and mariah carey. *ducks* ;)

Bruce Rose · 20 years, 3 months ago
I had to take the 80's. The 60's had too much redeeming value and the 70's were forgettable, for the most part. The stuff that was unforgettable wasn't pop. Or especially popular, at the time.

I voted for the sixites but the seventies deserve a better showing. Bowie, Led Zep, Traffic, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Rennaisance. The Ramones, Moody Blues, Blue Oyster Cult...
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
How could I not mention Queen, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, ...
Alan Mendelsohn Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Thank you for mentioning the Moody Blues.

I was split between the 70s and 80s. I would have picked late 70s early 80s, when many groups were around, like Aerosmith, Led Zep, ABBA, and all above named for the 70s. This era would also include the 80s groups as they were coming into their own. A good era for ears.
