   Discussion: Favorite Movie Quotes

I was flipping channels and was about to turn the TV off when I saw that end of The Princess Bride was on. I wasn't going to watch, I just watched it a few months ago, when I realize that it was up to "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father. Prepare to die." I couldn't miss that. What are some of your favorite lines from films?
Rachel Marie aka RAI Back · 14 years, 10 months ago
You mean you are making me choose?!

- "I would like to partake of your pecan pieeee..." ~Billy Crystal as Harry in When Harry Met Sally. (I don't know why I like this quote so much. It's not even that memorable. I think it's just fun to say.)

- "I'm down, I've got the 4-1-1, and you're not going out and getting jiggy with some boy, I don't care how dope his ride is! ...My mama didn't raise no foo'." ~Larry Miller as Dr. Stratford in 10 Things I Hate About You (His delivery of this line is PRICELESS.) ((Actually, this whole movie is VERY quotable.))

- "Omigawd Karen, you just can't ask people why they're white." ~Lacy Chabert as Gretchen Weiners in Mean Girls (Again, a very quotable movie.)

- "I'll tell you one thing about the universe, though. The universe is a pretty big place. It's bigger than anything anyone has ever dreamed of before. So if it's just us... seems like an awful waste of space." ~ Jodi Foster as Ellie Arroway in Contact

- "Whoa." ~Keanu Reeves in... well... anything.

However, I tend to quote randomness from books and The Simpsons more often. "When I grow up, I want to be a principal or a caterpillar." ~Ralph Wiggum

lacy chabert was great in mean girls, which was a great movie.

her line, "YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US!" was just so perfectly delivered, & evokes this particular primal emotion, that is very resonant in my life & i'm trying to bring into my art (her face & body in this panel? it should be like... you know that scene in mean girls, where lacy chabert says, "you can't sit with us!!!". like that).

From the movie splash there are several great quotes:

It requires some setup:Tom Hanks talking to Eugene Levy. They are on the beach along with a couple of guys who are carrying a big wooden crate. Levy is playing a scientist obsessed with proving mermaids exist.† Tom Hanks has just seen Darryl Hannah but she ran away and Hanks can't find her.

Hanks asks Levy if he has seen anyone else on the island. Levy responds:

"No just me and the moron twins."

One of the two guys says with a straight face "We're not twins."

Later Hanks is riding in a small boat with the owner who owns a boat rental. The engine dies and the guy says "I can fix it, I'm a mechanic." He then proceeds to beat the engine with a hammer.

The scene in Animal House with the statue of Emil Faber, founder of Faber College. At the bottom of the statue is a quote attributed to Faber saying "Knowledge is Good."

"Do it! Do it and I'll f*ckin' spank you!" - Matt Damon in Dogma

"But why cousin with a spoon? Why not a sword or an axe.. or a---BECAUSE IT'S DULL YOU TWIT, It'll HURT MORE!" - Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

... the entire movie of The Boondock Saints.

"Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear one of these days I'm going to kick this piece of s**t out of theee window!"

"Samir Naga....Naga.... not gonna work here anymore"

"ububububu-- space out?"

"Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately," "I wouldn't say I've been MISSING it, Bob!" (corporate laughter)

(anything Lumbergh says)

(the rap song Michael Bolton listens to in his car) "I can't talk to my mutha so I talk to my diary!"
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 14 years, 10 months ago
It is all your fault. I can't run copies of something for my class because the machine has a PAPER JAM.

"I'll take my traveler's checks to a competing resort."
Prinut · 14 years, 10 months ago
They just appear!"

"Well Sinead O'Rebellion. Shock me shock me shock me, with that deviant behavior!"
"You know you get smarter the shorter your skirt gets."
"And you get smarter the shorter your hair gets so I guess that's a good look for ya!"

"I'm going to tell Corey I love her today by 1:37."
"1:37. That is an excellent time."

Really, anything from Empire Records.

and Robin Hood: Men in Tights

"A toll is a toll. And a roll is a roll. And if we don't get no toll, than we don't eat no roll. He he..I made that one up myself"

"Actually my name is Will Scarlett O'Hara. *pause* We're from Georgia."
(and later)
"What part of Georgia you from? South Central?!"

Like all steven seagal movies..... awful, yet.. actually... somewhat... entertaining.

Crap, am I admitting to a guilty pleasure? *ducks*
*joolee* Back · 14 years, 10 months ago has totally been a quote that I remembered from that movie. Like, one I would use often.

Michael (foof) Maki Back · 14 years, 10 months ago
Weird. The first time I heard that particular phrasing was in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert from Tick's wife.
Geoff · 14 years, 10 months ago
Lots of good picks up there, but I gotta say, my two favorites are...

Chasing Amy:

"What's a nubian?"

"You're insane! Archie is not f*cking Mr. Weatherbee!"

"Guy's got a bladder like an infant" "Funny, he says you're hung like an infant" "Must his mother tell him everything?"

"Can I just say that all you needed was some serious deep dicking?"

And the MST3k movie:

"When in California, be sure to visit beautiful....oh."

"I'm gonna curl up in his sock drawer and sleep for days."

"Football practice!"

The Normal View song

"Industry! Science and technology! Big men putting screwdrivers into things! Turning them! And adjusting them!"

"Joe, look out for the prop! JOE!" [THUNK THUNK THUNK]

My ex and I were obsessed with that movie, to the point where we decided watching it with closed captioning on would be fun. That noise is showin in CC as [SOUND OF JOE GETTING CUT UP BY PROPELLOR]

C.D.:† as much as I really admire your shoes, and as much as I'd love to have a pair just like them, I really wouldn't want to be IN your shoes at this particular time and place.

Roxanne: I thought you said, "Earn more sessions by sleeving."
C.D.: Well, what the hell does that mean?
Roxanne: I donít know. Thatís why I came out.

"Ours goes up to 11" - Spinal Tap

the line is brilliant, but I'm more a fan of the entire scene (copied from imdb, as I don't have the entire bit memorised):

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

and of course, dozens of other lines from Spinal Tap, Best in Show, and A Mighty Wind, as well...

"Oh bollocks!" ~HG2G

"Where are we?"
"The foothills."
