Interesting/Weird food combinations

   Discussion: Interesting/Weird food combinations
Jerrilyh · 17 years, 10 months ago
I was at a friend's house on sautrday and someone left out Rice Krispies and Sprite. I thought it made for an interesting food combination. Just for fun. let's think of some interesting food combinations like Oreos in pickle juice and gravy.
Mamalissa! Back · 17 years, 10 months ago
Actually, Rice Krispies and Sprite have something in common - they make noise - crackling and fizzing.

How about coming up with foods that shouldn't have anything in common but they do.

Like sugar cookies and sprats - they both come in round tins.
Mamalissa! · 17 years, 10 months ago
Raisins in Sesame Oil.

Maybe Fruvous should write a song on this theme ;-}

i think fruvous should be writing songs....and recording...and touring...but then again it's just me...

Combine Jack Johnson's 'Banana Pancakes' with Weird Al's 'Taco Grande,' you get Grande Banana Taco Pancakes.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 17 years, 10 months ago
Rice Krispies add an interesting texture to a peanut butter sandwich. It is even better with Cocoa Krispies of course.

Most of of combinations involve peanut butter or chocolate.

I've put peanut butter in scrambled eggs.

My favorite summer drink is ice cream in iced coffee. I can't understand why this isn't a common drink. It is great. You don't need to use ice or sugar, just put the ice cream in the coffee.
Andrea Krause Back · 17 years, 10 months ago
Those peanut butter rice crispies combinations actually sound really tasty. :)
*joolee* Back · 17 years, 10 months ago
Whoa...it really does sound good...the rice krispies in pb.

PB in scrambled eggs sounds nearly as disgusting as egg nog in scrambled eggs.  *shudder*

pb and le snails...mmmmmm......

True story. My dad was on a camping trip, last day, almost out of food, so they combine what they had left. Hot PB and tuna fish.
Mamalissa! Back · 17 years, 10 months ago
A friend of mine used to eat Grape Nuts in Tang while camping.

Camping does not count.
Jerrilyh · 17 years, 10 months ago
How about Oreos and hot sauce. Washed down with Sake!
Jerrilyh · 17 years, 10 months ago
Chocolate lobster or chocolate and/on lobster. Also olives and peanut butter. Or peanut butter on a regular salad or macaroni salad.

A guy I used to date use to cut open a tomato put in cottage cheese (which is somewhat normal) then he would add a tablespoon or Helmann's mayo on top of that with salt and pepper. It was interesting that was for sure.
Jerrilyh · 17 years ago
How about ice cream in tomato sauce?

Pickle-flavoured coffee (especially from Starbucks)

Bacon-flavoured Pop-Tarts.

On June 8th, for my brother's birthday, we went to Friendly's. My brother made an interesting cole slaw dish. We put in ketchup, cocktail sauce, soda, salt, pepper, Sweet & Low, and Tartar sauce.

Humpty Dumpty makes Sour Cream and Clam chips. :)

(they're actually quite good...)

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 17 years ago
After the great fall he can still make chips?
Shelly Back · 16 years, 10 months ago

nate... Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
bad yoke.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
What do you expect when you talk about eggs to Shell?
nate... Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
True, she is a little deviled.

*joolee* Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
You all get last place.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
You are cracked.

I'd like to try those since I'm already a fan of Sour Cream and Onion anything. Is Humpty Dumpty a store or is it a brand and can I find it in NY?

nate... Back · 17 years ago
Don't know if you can find it in NY.... or if they even make them anymore! I just found by searching the web that the company was bought out by Old Dutch Foods in 2006... and on the Old Dutch website, I don't even find any mention of Humpty Dumpty. :(

It was actually a canadian company, but I could always find that flavor up in VT and NH.

Veggie corn dogs with gucamole. Yum.
At the last haliqua potluck I did a pita bread, falafel, baba ganoush with just a touch of tahini. It was really pretty tasty.
Misch · 17 years ago
Tuna, basil, and tomato.

No, not that far out there, but when it's sushi, it's not exactly traditional.

Are you pregnant, Pauley?
iPauley Back · 16 years, 11 months ago
I don't know... An email about a new wellness program at work asked me that yesterday, too. Maybe they know something I don't... :-P

Why not?
A girl named Becca Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
Ooh! You reminded me of my favorite drink from when I was in Spain: calimocho (or kalimotxo)! 1/2 red wine, 1/2 Coke.
nate... Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
which, strangely, is not as bad as it sounds.
A girl named Becca Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
So glad you approve. :)
Jack Karle · 16 years, 11 months ago
It's made with garlic gloves sort of "deep fried" in melted sugar. It's awesome. Honest.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 16 years, 11 months ago
I tried spam for the first time recently and found to my dismay that I love it.
Bender Back · 16 years, 11 months ago
Freak.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 11 months ago
Pot... kettle .... black.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 11 months ago
Sauerkraut in chocolate syrup with chili sauce and mustard on a hot dog.
Mamalissa! Back · 16 years, 11 months ago
Don't be ridiculous.  Nobody would ever eat sauerkraut on a hot dog.
nate... Back · 16 years, 11 months ago
mmm.... kraut on a hotdog is, like, the best thing evar.

almost as good as kraut on a kielbasa dog.

Mamalissa! Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
(t'were a joke)

;-}
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 10 months ago
Hot dog flavored Flan or Cheesecake.
VaiVedrai · 16 years, 10 months ago
Canned salmon and Hershey's syrup.
Jerrilyh Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
Spam and caviar with sprinkles.
Banana chicken burger.
Pastrami with frog legs in cookie dough.
VaiVedrai · 16 years, 10 months ago
Goat cheese, marinated eggplant, pancetta, Kalamata olives, and arugula. It's pretty good as a pizza topping.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 10 months ago
Hummus, Broccoli and Apricot Pizza.
VaiVedrai Back · 16 years, 10 months ago
That sounds pretty good too. Hell, almost anything is good on pizza.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 10 months ago
Egg Cream Margherita with ketchup and soy sauce.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 16 years, 9 months ago
I recently invented the peanut butter omelet. I just make a three egg omelet and fold in three teaspoons of peanut butter. Everyone gets grossed out when they hear me say it was incredibly good. It tastes great and has an amazing texture. If you try it you might want to use less PB. I am particularly fond of it.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 9 months ago
Pickles, oranges, and lemons in cole slaw.

Yogurt pizza (or do they have that?).

I was watching Rescue Me today and the black woman made a chocolate marshmallow pizza. I think that would overwhelm me.
blondviola · 16 years, 9 months ago
gross! my coworker eats potato chips dipped in--gasp--ketchup, i've also seen bbq/chicken/ice cream combos
nate... Back · 16 years, 9 months ago
well, it's basically like dipping in ketchup when you put chips on a burger. :)

Jerrilyh · 16 years, 9 months ago
I was at a farmer's market near Albany this afternoon and I saw jars of Green Jalapeño Pepper Jelly and jars of Watermelon Pickles.
nate... Back · 16 years, 9 months ago
that's weird?

Jerrilyh · 16 years, 9 months ago
Cold spaghetti, ranch dressing, and carrots.
VaiVedrai · 16 years, 9 months ago
Is the cold spaghetti with sauce or without?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 9 months ago
Is that any way to treat your old friend the reply button?
VaiVedrai · 16 years, 9 months ago

Yes, apparently it is.

Well, at least it's working faithfully...

VaiVedrai · 16 years, 9 months ago
I was at a buffet restaurant and made an..interesting dessert. Lemon zest and cucumber with chocolate ice cream. It's good, in an avant-garde gourmet sense.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 9 months ago
Fried chicken and orange juice and/or coffee. Also Salsa and pudding together.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 8 months ago
Maple Syrup on Pizza with Anchovies.
nate... Back · 16 years, 8 months ago
where did you try this?
nate... · 16 years, 8 months ago
I thought this whole thread was for interesting/weird food combos that people have had or seen... but... it seems the originator of the thread is just making shit up that they've never tried.

What's the point of the thread?

edit: didnt' mean that to sound as "wtf"? as it came off.. but... like... it seems most folks on the thread are talking about IRL combos... so... it only just now occurred to me that this dude wasn't.
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 8 months ago
Well why don't you post some interesting/weird food combination?

It's a shame that this thread can't keep going cos I'm always thinking/hearing of new ones to post here and I usually don't like to post right after I posted last, but I was frustrated that the thread wasn't active.
Bender Back · 16 years, 8 months ago
Threads die.  It's part of life.  No need to get angry about it.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 8 months ago
But what happens after they die? Do the good ones go to heaven? Are they reincarnated? Are they sewn into clothing?
nate... Back · 16 years, 8 months ago
happy to.

I once had oatmeal raisin cookies dipped in buttermilk ranch dressing.

was actually quite good.

nate... Back · 16 years, 8 months ago
what I want to know is where you tried the things you've posted.

I think the thread would be less likely to die if we were discussing weird things people have experienced.

Gordondon son of Ethelred · 16 years, 8 months ago
Last week I was volunteering at WFUV. They had a breakfast buffet and I made myself an old favorite of mine, a peanut butter and bacon sandwich. I mentioned that I make peanut butter omelets to someone and Linda walked in and heard only that. She said, "Do you know what else is good? A peanut butter and bacon sandwich." She then went on to tell the story of how her teacher had the class try different weird food combinations. When she was done I showed her what I was eating. She couldn't believe it. She said I should try some apple or pineapple on it.

Nutella and Bacon, Coffee & Fried Chicken
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 5 months ago
What's odd about Coffee and Fried Chicken?
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 5 months ago
Because coffee isn't normally drunken with chicken.
renita Back · 16 years, 5 months ago
then you've never met a true coffee addict ;) i drink coffee with just about everything. mmm. i need to put on a fresh pot now.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 5 months ago
Plenty of people drink coffee every meal. I've had it with chicken countless times without thinking about it.
nate... Back · 16 years, 5 months ago
I can't believe I'm the first one..... The reply button is your FRIEND. Also... since when is coffee not drunken with chicken?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 16 years, 5 months ago
I can't believe I missed that he didn't hit the reply button. Saying "The reply button is your friend" is my friend.
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 16 years, 3 months ago
What I really want to see is a chicken who is drunken on coffee. Do you think it would flap it's wings more? Run around the barnyard faster?

Is it even possible since coffee is an upper and being drunken requires a downer?
Jerrilyh · 16 years, 4 months ago
Corn and bananas with Nutella and Soy Sauce.
Jerrilyh · 15 years, 3 months ago
Steak and chocolate syrup

Oreos and Cheese

Ice cream flavored chicken

Chicken flavored ice cream

Chocolate shrimp

Fish and coffee

Bacon, Mushroom, & Grapefruit martini
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 15 years, 3 months ago
I keep my pizza cheese in the same drawer of the fridge as my breakfast fixings. I've been considering making a pizza omelet with Italian cheese mix and pizza sauce. Part of me thinks it makes a lot of sense and part of me thinks that it will end up in the garbage after one bite. Anyone think it would work?
It's a girl! Back · 15 years, 3 months ago
I've done that a number of times. It doesn't look appetizing, but it's quite tasty. And seriously? The guy who puts peanut butter in omelets is fearful of cheese and tomatoes?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 15 years, 3 months ago
I ha to work my nerve up to make a peanut butter omelet also. The sauce is the part that I afraid might have too strong a taste.
Jerrilyh · 15 years, 3 months ago
Meatloaf and lemonade
Hamburger Helper and Cheerios
Tacos and milk
