What bands are you following, if any?

Discussion: What bands are you following, if any?

Are there any bands that you see many times in a year? Who are they? I have a bunch but the ones I see the most are:
  • Red Molly - I see them almost every local (within 90 minutes) show.
  • The Kennedys - Same thing as Red Molly but they don't play as often since they moved up to Northampton
  • Kelly Flint - She's in a different situation as she hosts a show ever two weeks and I go to about half of them.
  • Richard Thompson - I see him every tour but because his shows are pricier I don't see every performance. He is my absolute favorite
  • Pat Wictor - Another local guy that plays a lot and I see a lot.
  • Christine Lavin - I never miss her and she's local but doesn't play that often.
What I don't have is someone like Fruvous that I'd routinely travel to see. I bet I'm forgetting people that I shouldn't.

I pretty much stopped seeing most concerts altogether post-Fruvous, aside from my local musical partners-in-crime. If I lived in a bigger city, I'd see more, but it takes a monumental show to get me to drive two hours (such as Café Tacuba in Detroit on Thanksgiving :D).

Awesome!! I hope that they give a good show.

yeah, same here. *nods* (well, not the tacuba thing, but, yeah.)

too many good acts coming thru to limit myself to following just a few bands. also, too much going on in my life to be anybody's superfan anymore. except sometimes andrew bird. but he's special.

I haven't traveled to see them like I used to with Fruvous, but anytime they're in upstate NY, I try my hardest to make as many shows as possible.

Well I don't travel to see bands (damn you school for making me poor!) but I know of an amazing band out of PA called Cherryfix. The lead singer has an amazing voice if anyone's into that kind of rock.

Currently, I'm listening to a whole lot of The Wonder Stuff.

I have a story. I started listening to the Wonder Stuff in 1990. They opened for a band I had seen, and, well, the bet way to describe the songs is 'Snarky Brit-Pop'.

They only toured the US twice, before they broke up in 1994 and I discovered Fruvous. Recently, I have been digging through my CD's and have been listening to them again.  They were way big in the UK, but didn't seem to catch on much here.  <shrug>  got little airplay. One quote about them said that they were what the Beatles would have been " If the Beatles had read Hunter..." (Hunter Thompson - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.) They used that as the title of the compilation of their singles.   Their 'Best Of"  entitled  "Cursed with Insincerity"  :-P

Miles Hunt, their lead singer and songwriter, went on to Vent 414 and the Miles Hunt Club, but a few years ago reformed the band with the one remaining living original member. I know a solo tour for Miles alone is in the works for the US, and I know a new album is due, early next year.

Catch some of their stuff (but in my opinion, not their greatest) on Youtube. (Well, perhaps except for "Everything is Not Okay - by the Miles Hunt Club) to get an idea. Milo's turn of phrasing is interesting. Something like Mike, with a thing for analogies, but a very pissed off Mike .

Enjoy!

If I could, I'd love to follow Shonen Knife, but unfortunaly I don't have the funds to follow them from here to Japan. I'll have to settle for when they come round here ever 3 years or so. Same goes for U2.

You'd have to go to Japan to follow U2? And here I was thinking they were Irish.

You have no idea how tempted I was to go to Tokyo to see U2 on their last tour! And then I could have gone to Osaka to see Shonen Knife too!!!
