Discussion: former Fru-lads - do you care?
Dolphin · 16 years, 6 months ago
Every post I create in this site regarding The Great Atomic Power is deleted by the owner of this site.  Does anyone out there care about this band that features two former members of Moxy Fruvous?  If not, I won't bother posting (or should I say trying to post) about them anymore.

Your posts aren't being deleted, they're being moved to the appropriate forum. I'm interested in hearing about them if it's relevant, but honestly, who cares about a show they're playing in Toronto if they live 1,000 miles away? A CD release would be of global interest, but local shows are not.

I recently added a "Recent Local Topics" box to the front page. Local show announcements will show up above the regular forum topics for users who have listed the city as a place they're interested in.

Given that people tend to like travelling to see bands and a lot of us have friends in Toronto (among other far away places), I don't think it's entirely irrelevant to post concerts in a forum that's more likely to be read by more people.

I can't make it to the GAP show listed now, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in reading about it. Ever since such posts started being moved from the Fruvous form to the local forum, I've changed my distance setting to 1000 miles, to make sure I don't miss anything.

(Plus, even with local turned down to 100 miles, the 'new' indicator still shows up, despite not being able to see the new posts, which just ends up being confusing. Unless that's been fixed since the feature debuted?)

but besides, not everyone here is a TMBG fan, either, so why do we have a poll about their songs on the main page? There's plenty of content that'll be posted on this site that not everyone is interested in. It's been that way since August 10, 1999.

And I don't think posting a GAP concert to the Moxy Früvous forum is at all off-topic.

It's a non-issue: for anyone who does care about far-flung shows, set the local filter to 9999 miles and enjoy to your heart's content. Hell, the default is to show everything if you haven't filtered your locations in the locals forum. If that's not visible enough, I'll tattoo the show announcements on my ass and I'll run around flashing it to anyone who'll look.

The TMBG polls were moved out of the regular forum area for just that reason; to keep it saner. The ability to hide that box is on my mile-long TODO list.

I was trying to figure out why those TMBG polls were in the middle of the front page.

That would be a "who cares" thread.

There was a CD release but that was included in a post about a show since it was being sold at a show.

And the only way to find those posts in the past is if you search for them.

Since I've flown, and am flying again next February TO LONDON to see concerts of bands I adore, I'm not one who should be answering this.
