But I actually know someone who got calf implants. Didn't like his chicken legs. Ugh.

Funny story about a dance club in Dallas. Some friends and I were there and the main competition for the women wasn't a $500 balloon drop or whatever. It was a dance off for a voucher good for $1,500 in plastic surgery. That's Dallas for you.

you haven't lived till you've seen Ray Milland's head sharing a body with Rosie Greer's.

The Thing With Two Heads is a great movie! And by great I mean one of the worst movies ever made, which is an accomplishment.

I've told people about this movie and they thought I was making it up.

botox injections win my vote for scariest.

injecting toxins into your body to paralyze muscles is weird shit.
A girl named Becca Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
I second that.

mmmmbotulism
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
No, sweetie, it's mmmmbopulism.

I stand correctoted.

They're ALL scary!!!!
Bruce Rose Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Exactly! If only there was an 'all of the above' option.
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Oh they're definitely all scary. Just trying to find out which is scariEST. :)
Bender Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Why?
Mamalissa! · 18 years, 8 months ago
I voted facelift, because the people turn out scary looking.

*gets on high horse*

But as far as frightening goes, the most frightening cosmetic surgery for a patient would be after trauma of any sort - burns, mastectomy, anything.

Please don't forget that not all Plastic Surgery is done by people who want to reach some sort of ideal beauty. There is surgery that is medically necessary, and there is surgery meant to restore a body to "normality," even if it's not strictly medically necessary.

*gets off high horse, walks it to stable, unsaddles, feeds and waters, curries, and goes back to businness as usual*
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 8 months ago

I don't consider those frightening, I consider those necessary and helpful. By "frightening" I mean "it scares me that people feel this is necessary" and "omg I can't believe you did that!!"

So no, not forgetting that plastic surgery is not all cosmetic and shallow....just would never include that in "frightening" category.

it works on steven tyler. not on lisa rinna.
renita · 18 years, 8 months ago
another scary one is "designer vaginas".

women are having surgery not only inside to tighten the canal, but also outside, restructuring the inner and outer labia.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
You win.
Bender Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
While we're going down this path, I have two words for you:

Hymen restoration.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Didn't that happen after the death of Cromwell?
Paul · 18 years, 8 months ago
I didn't know penile implants are considered plastic surgery. Is it like a facelift resulting in less wrinkles??
Bender · 18 years, 8 months ago
I don't see how plastic surgery is different than any other form of body modification.

Getting a tummy tuck is no more vain than getting a tattoo. Everone has the right to be happy with the way they look.
renita Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
yes they do.

and i have EVERY right to say, damn, that's freaky.
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 8 months ago

Exactly. Never would presume to tell someone they shouldn't or can't do these things. They just frighten me!

Bender Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Most people who have plastic surgery? You wouldn't even know it.

The only ones you notice are the ones who go overboard.
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 8 months ago

I agree. But either way, the idea of the surgeries sparks an "omg scary!" in my head.

We just have a difference in thresholds for being creeped out. *shrug*

nate... Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
yeah, exactly.

getting surgery to modify your body is a LOT different (in my mind) from having inks put into your skin.

renita Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
that's true.

but show me a case where that isn't true.

you only ever notice that which is different or extreme.

american tourists get a bad rap because of a few obnoxious seeds.
teenagers get a bad rap because people often only see the ones acting out, not contributing to society.

yes, i have a right to think that it is freaky that thousands of women in north america are so upset that they do not have "porn star vaginas" that they feel like they have to undergo surgery on nerve-dense tissue to obtain an airbrushed ideal.

or that women and men are so frightened and ashamed of growing old that they have their faces sliced open to remove any wrinkles.

I certainly don't think all plastic surgery is bad. I never said that it was, and I don't think anyone here has said that it is. but sometimes it takes on a frightening aspect. and THAT is the subject of the poll.

oh and most people who get botox injections, yes you would know it. That is if you ever looked at their face while talking to them and if you're sensitive at all to social cues and body language. A huge amount of non-verbal communication comes from eyebrows and forehead.

teenagers get a bad rap because people often only see the ones acting out, not contributing to society.

very true, sadly.
nate... Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Thankfully, there are those, like caroline, who tend to offset things to the positive. :)

caroline: tired. Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
i can't take all the credit. although i'm flattered. :)
Bender Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
I never denied you your right to think and say whatever you please.

Botox is usually obvious.

However, you've probably met dozens of people with rhinoplasties, abdominoplasties, breast augmentation, or various other cosmetic surgeries without noticing.

The bottom line to me is that they're not hurting anyone else and if it makes them happier, let them have it.
nate... Back · 18 years, 8 months ago
Oh, I don't think anyone is disagreeing with THAT.

I mean, personally, I don't care if they do it.. that's their right.

But it's my right to find it creepy and icky.
:)
