If I had to pick I'd go both ways. Red for the red cells White for the white cells

It's a girl! · 21 years, 3 months ago

Peach flavored Reuniti, baby. In a screw top bottle.  I have no class!

*realizes she probably messed up the deirdre lyrics but is too lazy to hunt down the liner notes*

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
I don't like wine I think covers that. It's what I did.

Wine is good, but vodka's better.
Misch · 21 years, 3 months ago
I'm one of those RIT guys who has taken the Wines of the World class. The Finger Lakes Region (Just a short 20 minute drive) is home to some of the best winemaking in the USA. Sure, California has us beat in production numbers, but New York is the second, and we've got some great wineries here.

Thanks to the class, I've learned that I do apprecieate the sweeter white wines more than I do other wines. It's not to say I don't like red wines, it's just a preference.

Oh, my paper for AP Chemistry in HS... "Why red wine goes with red meat" Too bad I didn't get to do any live demonstrations. *sigh*
nate... Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
Ummm..... NY does have a lot of wineries... but.... not much good wine comes out of them.
Josh Woodward Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
Ohio is also a big wine producing state. I used to have a fairly negative impression of what Ohio was capable of producing until I started trying some of the vinifera varietals from the east shore of Lake Erie. Some of them are fantastic. I'm sure there are similar successes in NY. California will always be better overall because of the perfect Mediterranian climate, but the best of NY or Ohio wines will be better than the average Cali wine.
nate... Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
Oh, I'm sure there are some really excellent wines that come out of NY... I've just not had any yet. :) I'm speaking more as a whole.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
Someone decided that Long Island would be a good place for wineries and about 30 years ago they started planting vinyards. The strange thing is that he was right. The wines have a good rep. Not that I'd know from experience.
Misch Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
New York, especially the finger lakes region, is on the same lines of latitude as the French Bordeaux region. (or is it longitude... whatever.)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
It's latitude. The best wines come in northern latitudes and cloudy climates.
Josh Woodward · 21 years, 3 months ago
I'm a wine geek. It's hard to live a couple hours away from Napa and Sonoma and not get bitten by the bug. I even have most of my tasting notes online.

My favorites are the big jammy reds. Zins (especially the three R's: Rosenblum, Ravenswood and Ridge), chocolaty Malbecs, and Syrahs are my favorites. Cab is also great, but overpriced. Pinot, at its best, is amazing. I also love whites, especially the boring old Chardonnay, Rieslings with a bit of RS, and a good sharp Savignon Blanc. Sweet wines can also be wonderful, particularly good ice wines. I've even had a great late harvest Zin at Ridge with a gobs of residual sugar that was fantastic.

/me is heading to wineries today. *grins*
Misch Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
*hee* When I was at a winery in Ontarios (yes, there are some great ones there) they had a sign that said "Friends don't let friends drink zinfandel"
Back · 21 years, 3 months ago

heh!

"mmmPaul...funny"

I have an Italian family..so wine is always around!

RED...but I have always liked white better, since I'm not a fan of "dry", and I always seem to have instant headaches...  My mom leapt over to the white side when we found out the Red causes migraines in MANY women!

long live sweet, white, and cold!

Mamalissa! Back · 21 years, 3 months ago

What?  It's the truth!  It's not like I am saying something everyone else hasn't already thought!  Unless you like the song Red, Red Wine!
dave "buh" · 21 years, 3 months ago
ever since i went to spain i've been into the spanish (Rioja) wines...
nate... Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
Yeah, I've been on a kick with spanish wines as well.

if you are looking for the best bargain by FAR in spanish reds, go for Borsao. It's a really solid wine, and at around $5 or $6 a bottle, it can't be beat. Next step up, I'd go with Muga, which is also excellent, but about 3 times the price.

Rioja!  That's where I'm going in September!  :)

Arbie Back · 21 years, 3 months ago

yum! My favourite too Nitsa. I don't mind reds but I find I get the nasty headaches that Julie mentioned. Unlike Julie though, for me the dryer the better. When I started learning about wines (you all know that was before you  were born right?) the german's were the best cheap whites so they are still my sentimental favourite, but other areas, even the local ones (BC) are getting pretty good. 'Cept now I don't drink much of anything usually.
