Amazing lyrics and powerful showmanship

Tori Amos is one of the premier female singer/songwriters of the past decade, with a dedicated following. After studying as a classical musician since the age of 5, she joined the ranks of rock 'n roll in her mid-teens. Her shows are literally breathtaking, and her unique girl-with-a-piano sound is unmatched. If you're interested in hearing her stuff, check out Little Earthquakes, her first album.

Snow In Summer:

when pianos try to be guitars

Tori Amos has evolved from a classical musician to girl in a hair band back to a pianist and currently into a musician whose songs increasingly become more layered and complex with each new album. Tori has also covered such awesome songs as "smells like teen spirit", the Cure's "lovesong" and Leonard Cohen's "famous blue raincoat". My pick for newbies: Under the Pink. it's still my favourite album. along w/ Boys for Pele.

don't let the ears with feet scare you . . .

a live show is worth the effort. my first show involved camping on seattle sidewalks overnight for tickets and i don't regret a moment of it. my favorite album is still little earthquakes, but the latest album is also a contender if only because "cooling" is on the live disc.

K-Lyn:

Little Earthquakes is the album that got me through college. I don't know what I would have done with out her. If you go to a concert...not matter how big the venue...it's just you , her, and the piano!

Kat Kunz:

fascinating lyrics, fabulous voice, and a piano to boot

tori fascinates me. i don't always comprehend her deeper meanings, but i do know i love singing along with her music. i can't tell you how many car trips i've survived only because of _little earthquakes_ or _from the choirgirl hotel_... i would recommend seeking out the Winter EP, because the b sides (take to the sky, sweet dreams, upside down) are AMAZING. one of my favourite releases ever, i think. (and her videos are way cool, too. )

mickey:

among other things, does a mean cover of "landslide".

tori's pretty tripped out, but her music is better than cliff notes as a study aid. once, i listened to the song "yes, anastasia" (my favorite of hers) over and over while studying for a final. when the final came along, i drew a blank on the information, until the song wafted into my head, along with the material i had studied! a modern miracle. now i can put dean's list on my resume. like anyone cares.

Bruce Rose:

Haunting, powerful, and auburn-tressed

I used play Little Earthquakes as my go-to-sleep music. While I don't encourage that for everybody (WOW... those were some twisted dreams), I recommend the album without reservation. Her latest, Strange Little Girls is another great one. Die-hard fans only beyond that point.

Oh, and if anyone has YKTR... name your price.

Johanna Culbertson:

She tells it how it is

Tori Rose:

Alrighty. I think her lyrics are absolutely fantastic, but I can't listen to her sing for long periods of time. I don't think she lacks talent, I just think she's an ear-strainer.
