Review of "Crowded House/Neil Finn" |
Information:What's the band's name? Crowded House/Neil Finn What genre is this band?Rock Where is this band from?New Zealand Does this band have a homepage?http://www.frenz.com/neilfinn/ Give a short summary of this band ("Soft folk with a jazzy twist" for instance):Some of the most beautiful songs out there. Reviews:Some of the most beautiful songs out there. Yes, you all remember "Don't Dream It's Over", but no one else has really heard anything after that. Crowded House (and, after their 1996 breakup, The Finn Brothers, then Neil Finn) have the kind of songs that could make me cry with merely a couple notes. If you've not heard CH before, go buy their "Best Of.." CD. It has all the hits and a few unreleased songs, too!Pop that doesn't suck. Agreed with Taylor -- some of the musically best stuff out there. Crowded House was my favorite band for years when I was younger!Pop that hits home One of my favorite songs of all time would have to be Something So Strong. How can you get away from lyrics like: I've been feeling so much older; Frame me and hang me on the wall. Gotta agree with Tay, the Best of CD is wonderful although I love listening to Something So Strong on 45.crowded house: the wonder from down under. not tag-team wrestlers, as the description may sound, but rather a lush duo with distinctive voices, lyrics, and harmonies. "best of" is a great survey, but i think "together alone" is really CH's best. "try whistling this" is solid as a rock.more than just "Don't Dream It's Over" yeah yeah....anyone growing up in the 80's has heard that song...but this band is so much more!!!! I command all of you to go out this minute and listen to "Together Alone".....if you don't get chills listening to the title song or "Private Universe"....you need some help ;-)....go now!Melodic emotion I remember a review of Together Alone that said "Neil Finn pisses genius"...i think that about sums it up.One of the top 5 songwriters of our generation Neil Finn has a magical way of breaking all the songwriting rules while still making his songs approachable.Wow. Just wow. Anyone who thinks this guy's career ended after the overly-covered "Don't Dream It's Over", and its follow-up single "Something So Strong", has been living in a dark cave, indeed. From the pre-Crowded House material (Split Enz) to the recent solo and Finn Brothers albums, Neil Finn has been building an impressive archive of songs. From moody-but-catchy (Anytime, Only Talking Sense) to achingly romantic (Try Whistling This, Into the Sunset), to finely crafted pop (Rest of the Day Off, She Will Have Her Way), Neil Finn's catalog reads like a how-to of songwriting. Under the radar in much of America, it's nice to know that most of the rest of the world has been giving this guy the attention he deserves. (Also, check out fellow SE/CH/FB member Tim Finn's most recent work. Eclectic but terrific.) I love this band, mainly because the gorgeous Neil Finn's songwriting skills. He's endlessly inventive To rate this, log in.
