Jason Reiser:

TMBG frontman John Flansburgh's side project

1/2 TMBG, random oddness mixed in... real fun stuff. Mono Puff is hard for me to describe, but hard to put down. If you like TMBG, you'll love Mono Puff. ;)

m. badass:

lounge music for folks who just can't sit still

equal parts smooth, intelligent pop and white-boy funk, mono puff is eminently singable and danceable. great fun!

lawrence:

I was unsupervised. I had a real good time until I hit my head.

they've got two very different albums out... I liked them better before "the syndicate," but It's Fun To Steal does have some great material on it. and besides, it's the whole reason I'm a Fruhead (it was released the same day as Live Noise, and Mono Puff is right next to Moxy Fruvous in the store :) and if you can get your hands on the "Devil Went Down to Newport" EP, it has one of the very best TMBG-songs-that-wasn't-really-a-TMBG-song on it as a B-side. but otherwise, it seems that Mono Puff has a lot of the stuff that's beyond what TMBG would do in some direction or another.

Kat Kunz:

groooo-vay, yet quirky. lots of fun.

i'm speaking more of _it's fun to steal_ than _unsupervised_, just 'cause i like it a heck of a lot more. it's funk-pop-rock that i could put on as background music at a party without my guests giving me funny looks. if your tastes tend more toward the bizarre than the groovy, though, i'd recommend the first album (and i really can't resist a song like "nixon's the one").

ellen, formerly evil:

Satisfies the need for both quirk and funk... ahh...

Flans is the man! These guys are so great! I love the techo-y aspect to the music, DJ ***** is a great compliment to this funky music... _unsupervised_ is very "out there", _it's fun to steal_ is a bit less ecletic and more with the funk! extra crispy!

J. Andrew World:

The Real Puff Daddy

They are the real reason Puff Daddy is now P. Diddy. John Flansberg of They Might Be Giants put together this rock & Roll Side project to do things he couldn't to in TMBG. It was great to get it durring the years when TMBG didn't releace new material, and it's still fun to listen too!

Bruce Rose:

TMBG with *wank*

I've got to give the nod to Unsupervised, complete with the Gary Glitter cover "Hello, Hello". But they also covered the Young Fresh Fellows "Hillbilly Drummer Girl" for It's Fun To Steal. You can't go wrong either way.

J:

Why does everyone always pick 7/10 Mono puff is better than a 7 come on guys.
I dig the guitar on Guitar was the case its so simple yet effectively rattles the change in my pockets.
