Emy and her umbrella:

they practically made rock

two guys who have been making music since they was wee little ones. they're first hit was in 1956 ("Hey, Schoolgirl in the Second Row") and... why am i explaining this? you should *know* who they are already! i like them... all the songs write do are good (except some of their traditional song covers). and another thing: make sure you get the stuff with BOTH of them. They're not as good when they're alone.

Lauren Teson:

Ahhh, the Graduate Soundtrack

Need I say more? Ok, how about feelin' groovy? Great harmonies, more singalong in the car songs...

mickey:

the corn of my corn-fed musical youth (musical youth!)

i was brought up on the artists formerly known as tom and jerry; "wednesday morning, 3 am" and "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme" were stapled to the turntable. i also love paul simon as a solo artist, but simon and garfunkel were even more special. (also one of my first concerts, as a 5 year old, in central park. my first concert was odetta. but that's neither here nor there.

danced with Lazlo:

mmmmmmm...

I grew up on these guys and will never outgrow them. They taught me harmonization.

Squee:

Their blend is gorgeous.

My friend and I were discussing them once; she pointed out that their voices blend *perfectly,* they compliment each other and just melt together. It's beautiful.

K-Lyn:

Some days I feel bad for Garfunkle because Simon is so great on his own but no one will ever come close to what they were together!

lawrence:

great guitars, great harmonies

they've got it all - cool lyrics, amazing vocal harmonies, and terrific backing instrumentation. they have an incredible volume of work - get their 3 CD set, which has something like 5 albums on it. it is a definite "must have."

m. badass:

the car music any family can agree on!

I'll never forget the year my school wind ensemble played a medley of Simon and Garfunkel hits and our conductor played their CDs fro us during class...a room full of music-geeky middleschoolers dancing to "Mrs. Robinson" is not a sight one easily forgets.

quinn with glitter socks:

are they even capable of making bad music?

the graduate soundtrack, bridge over troubled water, awesome. 2 of my favorite albums, and best on vinyl. wonderful stuff. fun to singalong to, to listen to, and just to lose yourself in,

Manda Heim:

the best harmonies around

they just rock. sound of silence, and the boxer are songs that both totally rule :-) but everything of theirs does ;-)

Steph Strenger:

"Feeling groovy..."

These guys know how to harmonize. Their music can be calming or bouncy. Serious or fun. Good or best. You get my drift. They are really easy to listen to, and at least one song of theirs will agree with everyone's musical tastes.

Tonya (Moore) Colombe:

absolutely sublime. god bless them both.

bee:

simon and garfunkel are what harmony is all about. their sound will stay with me forever. they have written some of my favourite songs.

Tim (Two-Sheds) Engle:

Been a fan since 1966...the best harmonies and the most expressive lyrics of the century. Don't believe me? Do a Napster search for 'Old Friends', close your eyes and let the words paint you a picture of Central Park in the fall. You can't help but be moved. Then, go and buy everything they ever did as a duo.

frukid:

I am a rock...I am an island...

Love em..don't know what I'd do without them! The sound of silence is a great song...and so is mrs. robinson...and...hell..GO BUY ALL THEIR ALBUMS NOW!

Megan can't believe it:

Mmmmm.

Mmmmm. Granted Paul Simon can stand on his own as a genius (we all know who wrote more than 90 percent of the songs) but the harmonies the guys achieve together are dazzling. Their songs still endure today, in addition to being excellent fodder for jazz arrangers (look at the New York Voices and Kirby Shaw). If you can't admit that Simon and Garfunkel form a foundation of past and modern music as a whole, well, I don't know why you've read so far down on the page as to come to this review.
