Give a short summary of this band ("Soft folk with a jazzy twist" for instance):
Ach, they used to rock, back then, they did

Reviews:

Kerri Chyka:

bouncy sorta punk rock with wacky and smart lyrics

Frank Black (Black Francis) and Kim Deal are musical geniuses. Try "Doolittle" for starters and you'll find great stuff such as "Debaser," "Mr. Grieves," "Wave of Mutilation."

mickey:

and after you're done with that, move on to "trompe le monde".

yay pixies. yet another great band. black francis is indeed amazing, and from this band spun off other greats such as frank black and the catholics, the breeders, and belly (who i am adding to this list right now). go for broke and buy "death to the pixies", a double cd. one live, one best of. a great survey of this band.

m. badass:

no! no! start with "bossanova"!

huzzah for the pixies, who pretty much singlehandedly made college-alterna-modern rock. and their work still holds up with the best of today's acts even about a decade after they went their separate ways.

Ted V. Blanchard:

Ach, they used to rock, back then, they did

I know: ancient history. Old hat. So what? I knew and loved them when, and I got my "Death To The Pixies!" t-shirt at an Orpheum show in Boston, before the death happened. They launched a thousand bands, and they still sound fresh today, dammit. Anyway, "Pixies At The BBC" is a good live collection from British Radio; best albums, IMO, are "Doolittle," "Surfer Rosa," and "Trompe Le Monde."

J:

what would I do with out the Pixies?

and remember shake your butt, but not to hard

Nathan:

I got into them fairly late, and I never cared for most of the grunge artists who cited them as an influence, but they've become one of my favorite bands. My favorite Pixies album is Bossanova, and their best song is the grand-sounding "Velouria."

Bruce Rose:

Found them when I was back-cataloguing Belly and The Breeders. Brilliant... Brilliant. Very ahead of their time. I still don't think we've caught up.
