Beautifully blurs the lines between jazz, folk, rock, and folk...

Tory Cassis is an amazing singer/songwriter who has opened for Fruvous on several occasions. Many songs use a belting big band-influenced sound, and others rely only on hauntingly beautiful guitar. Add intelligent, touching lyrics and a smokey voice from another age, and there you have Tory Cassis.

Josh Woodward:

Smooooooth voice..

That's what I love most about Tory. His voice is the smoothest ever. His songs are moody, and mostly all slow, but as long as you're not on a caffeine high he's just right.

Andrea Krause:

Charming and soulful jazzyfolkrockstuff

Tory's album is so excellent. This man has a voice that will stroke your senses. He's becoming increasingly more entertaining to see live.

Misch:

One cool guy too :-)

Trained as a jazz musician, Tory has played long stints at a jazz club in Toronto. But he's got his own music too, and it's really good. His CD "Anywhere But Here" combines his jazz and his rock elements with hard hitting songs like the title track "Anywhere But Here", and "Such A Crime" to soft smooth melodies like "The Things I Would Say"

lawrence:

absolutely amazing

this man has one of the best voices I've ever heard. combined with great guitar playing (and good arrangements with full band stuff) and excellent lyrics, he creates a wonderful sound.

danced with Lazlo:

I don't often do this but... *swoon*

his voice makes you melt. Sometimes listening to Tory I'm torn between the urge to sing and not wanting to tamper with the pure beauty that is his music... *swoonmelt*

Maggie Deegan:

i've seen tory quite a few times now... honestly, until you know the songs i think it's difficult to appreciate tory with just his guitar. if you've never heard him before, seeing him with a full band will completely blow you away. once you're familiar with his cd you'll go thru hell and high water to see this man. and yes, our own dave matheson (aren't we a bunch, claiming dave as our own... ) wrote Leaning on the Stair with tory. that particular track has a distinctive groove that isn't as apparent on the rest of the cd, but don't get me wrong, the rest of the album is EXCELLENT. i love this man.

Mike "Racer" Yoshioka:

oohhhhh a horn section

Saw him open for Fruvous in Vancouver. What a strong voice. And he came back with them during their encore and they all played one of his songs. The man is good. Very good.

Shannon's in NC:

Killer voice, fabulous musician

He's the perfect "first listen" artist if you're trying to introduce someone to jazz. And man is he easy on the eyes...

Lightning Rod:

Kaluha and milk on silk

I was with Mike at the Frvous show when Tory Opened. He was great, but not the greatest venue for him I would guess.(loud, busy, croud not paying attention, even hard on Frvous) My fave was when he came out and played a song with the lads! It really made his song come to life! I would love to hear him tour with a band!

bee:

like a soft summer breeze

tory is an incredible musician. i am currently waiting for his cd to arrive at my house. leaning on a stair is a wonderful song. (go dave) tory just rocks!

JK:

A great voice and a really nice guy

I'd never heard of Tory when he opened for Frvous, but I had his CD by the end of the night. He has an amazing voice and some beautiful songs. Of course, I'm more or less preaching to the converted here, but if you haven't heard his music, you really should check it out.

Delicious

Tory's music can be compared with chocolate mousse...yum. I first heard him playing with Sarah Slean. I think I melted right there in my chair. Cool, soaring vocals and this heart-wreching passion in his throat. And he plays the trumpet to boot. And he's got those tall, dark and handsome good looks!

Megan can't believe it:

Nothing compares.

To quote the Vancouver Sun, "Tory Cassis must believe in the power of first impressions because his debut CD, 'Anywhere But Here,' is terrific." For someone who happened on Tory entirely by accident--I downloaded his cover of Sarah Slean's "High" after remembering that he was Murray's roommate--I would now go through hell, high water, and plagues of locusts to see this man live. The voice, the instrumentals, and the lyrics all make this musician the type to recommend to all and sundry. A stunning debut.

Kat Kunz:

i am truly stunned...

...not only by the beauty of tory's music and lyrics, but also that i have yet to write a review lauding this fabulous artist! very jazz-tinged, from full-out lounge (you never will) to gentle, almost folk- balladic (leaning on the stair). and tory's voice... mmm, velvet, butter and licorice all rolled into one. i really feel as though i'm treating myself to something uniquely wonderful every time i listen to _anywhere but here_. fabulous!

allya:

i just want to know where this guy is? does he tour? has he released anything new? because, im going to be serious here, im in need of some tory!

J. Andrew World:

If Issac Hayes was a white guy from Canada....

Him music is sexxy and his voice is smooth! He is Tory Cassis! I got to ask him on The radio once "How has being Murray Foster's Roommate has inflewenced his music." He said "To me, Murray is a Superhero." How can you not want to listen to an artest who says that?
