Reviews:

Rachel Beck:

singer/songwriter

Poor Napoleon and Indoor Fireworks are both Elvis Costello songs. EC sounds equally at home singing with a string quartet, Burt Bacharach, or his own band.

elizabeth:

grew up to him

ok well I'm still "growing up" but my dad is a huge fan and I never really minded listening to him. recently I started listening to him on my own and i realized what I used to think were songs just about detectives and fireworks are the products of a really great singer/songwriter. very cool live.

Andrea Krause:

Incredibly prolific, influential, and just plain good!

Elvis amazes me. From beautiful and mellow, to energetic rocking, this guy can write with the best of 'em. I have not yet heard an Elvis Costello song I don't like! (I have a long way to go though, he's got so many albums!) Costello is also the only artist to truly have a great writing partnership with Paul McCartney since Lennon. He brought out something in Paul's writing that had been missing for a while. Check out Elvis's best of's, and Blood & Chocolate, and Armed Forces, and anything and everything you can grab!

Kat Kunz:

the KING of rock & roll: elvis... costello.

go buy _the very best of..._. now. i bet you'll even be able to find it used. but it's fantastic, and it's a great introduction to the breadth and depth of mr. costello's influence on modern music. and songs like "radio radio" and "oliver's army" will NOT allow you to sit still... at least, till you're blown away by "indoor fireworks" or "i want you."

Bruce Rose:

Often overlooked, never duplicated...

Elvis is a straight on rocker. Everything from punk to lullaby, Elvis has done it all (yes even country). Best of, Armed Forces, This Years Model, and Imperial Bedroom are all good starts. Find these albums and find them quickly.

chris q murphy:

the man....

he is the best - plain and simple - mccartney, paul simon, burt bacaharach, bob dylan, tom waits - ELVIS COSTELLO!!!! one of he greatest songwrters of our time - go get 'THis years model' for a rockin good time or for a more 'intellectual/progressive' album :) go get "Spike"

bee:

a must have

everyone should own "blood and chocolate". i don't think it's available in stores anymore, so check online. it's a great album! elvis is the man. elvis lives!

some skeleton:

Awesome Lyrics, great chords.

I can't say enough good stuff about the great EC. He's the only Elvis on my plate. I love his style, and his vocal "imperfections" are just so much more sincere and wonderful than some of the crap that pop radio plays nowadays, at least in my town. He's also played a major role in my own decision to be a musician in public and not just my living room.

angelmusicmaven:

SO SO SO SO good! The records are great to turn up in the car or the big home stereo... and live with a rock band... WOW!
