pet sounds=good sounds

carey is right. pet sounds is a fantacular album. hey, brian wilson was inspired to write it after listening to rubber soul, it had to turn out good.

Mike "Racer" Yoshioka:

Catchy summertime fun

The BeachBoys are fun. Who wouldn't want to cruise around a beach in a convertible with the BeachBoys playing in the background? :)

Luke Delano:

try six part harmonies

Brian Wilson could not read music, and did not have any george martin to fill in the cracks. YET: Brian is responsible for ALL arrangements production (occasionally engineering) and composition of 95% of the first fifteen beach boys albums, and about 60% of their production thereafter (at these points consistently under the influence of paranoid schizophrenia) Not bad. He is one of Pop music's great masters.

Lightning Rod:

Surfer pop

These are the guys that we sung harmonies with growing up! haha! They were the rage in teen surfer pop, that changed their tune when the Beatles showed up. They were ahead of the recording game, but the inner band conflicts tore them apart.

chris q murphy:

luke is right...

i would first like to thank lucas for proving to me that the beach boys are NOT catchy summertime fun - but one of the best group of studio vocalists ever - if you do not have a favourite vegetable, you are dumb

Peter Kelso:

THANK YOU BRIAN!

With summer upon us, what could be better than cranking the "All Summer Long" album on the weekends? If you get into them, and all their twists and turns, you get so much back in return..

It's a girl!:

"Pet Sounds"- the most breathtakingly gorgeous piece of music ever produced.

lawrence:

great harmonies, amazing orchestration

Pet Sounds is by far one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Brian Wilson is a musical genius, and was working with a great supporting cast. But there's also a lot to be said for the earlier, more beach-related stuff... the 4 and 5 part harmonies are quite excellent, and it's very interesting to see how their style progressed through the early and mid-1960s.

I saw them in 1987 when 3 of the original members were touring with them. a few of them are still touring as The Beach Boys, and Brian Wilson is doing solo shows, at which he's playing Beach Boys material. I highly recommend getting to one of these shows.

tibbar:

My favouret group of all time. Having grown up in Califorina listing to 50's and 60's music one becomes familiar with them. But even in the 80's thier music struck a cord when they produced a #1 hit. Much of what they did set up how pop music evolved.

goovie is married!:

but wait, there's more!

I've never been one for the surfing/car songs, but Pet Sounds is an absolute masterpiece.

angelmusicmaven:

Great pop, and has inspired many of today's great melodic songwriters.

Bruce Rose:

Better than the Beatles. Take that, FHDC! :-p
