Before there was spinal tap...

...there was the pre-fab four, The Rutles. The mocumentary was the brainchild of Eric Idle of Monty Python fame, and Neil Innes - and actually has a cameo by George Harrison, who is friends with Idle. A CD of the soundtrack was released, and is a brilliant, uncanny beatles parody. A later CD, "archaeology" (to match the beatles anothology) was a piece of crap.

neil innes?

who are all these people you mention - i used to go see drik mcquickly and the boys at the ratkellar (translation a cellar of rats - not a "SELLER" of rats as in a man who sells rats to another man for a living but and actual "CELLAR" full of rats) back i the early days - i particular enjoy the sgt rutter album, and dirk's punk stuff is incredible - long live the pre-fab four!!!!!

Mamalissa!:

Stig is dreamy!

All You Need Is Cash

Yes, Dirk is deaf, and they all sued each other only before they sued themselves. But the Rutles shall be remembered until at least next Tuesday. And I've met Neil Innes at a couple of Beatlefests, and is the best guest that we have. Playing Dueling Banjos on piano this year was a priceless event.

It's a girl!:

He asked to see my door but I wouldn't show it to him

The Rutles were a cheeky, lovable, non Jewish pop group who set the foot of the world a tappin' with hits such as Twist and Rut. Their first album was made in twenty minutes. Their second took even longer. The album Sgt Rutter's Only Darts Club Band is considered by many to be a millstone in pop music history, And Stig is either dead or he has a water buffalo

Gordondon son of Ethelred:

What another fictional band?

OK here I go first Hedwig now the Rutles. The Rutles were a Legend to Last a lunchtime. The Pre- fab four were the subjects of a tv special combining the talents of Monty Python with SNL. The result was hilarious, an obvious influence on Spinal Tap. OMG do they get a recommendation too?

goovie is married!:

i think it was the trousers

Python Eric Idle and Bonzo Neil Innes united to create the hilarious mockumentary "All You Need is Cash" -- a must for anyone who knows anything about the Beatles, or has a sense of humor. Besides George, the film also includes cameos by Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Michael Palin, etc etc etc. And the accompanying CD, with songs written by Innes, is a perfect parody of every stage in the Beatles' musical evolution. "Love is the meaning of life! Life is the meaning of love!"
