Reviews:

Snow In Summer:

acoustic folk-rock. the real meaning of "girl power." provoking lyrics.

you know you've heard of her. better live than studio. Fruvous friend (see B-ville notes) and influence. first album to get: Living in Clip. a double CD, but it's just like being there. often performs with interesting partners. (ex. Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra or storyteller Utah Phillips). has never sold out... never. still runs her own record company... on Main St. in Buffalo. (side note: my employer used to be in the same bldg as Ani's record company... my employer moved.) similarities to Fruvous: energetic shows, rabid fans, very opinionated.

Mollie:

she's really wonderful and powerful

Lauren Teson:

Relationship writing and Political Folk Music

While her relationship writing has gotten the most attention, her political songs are wonderful as well! Thought evoking lyrics. Makes for a good mix on tapes for friends who have just gone through break- ups as well.

mickey:

no longer at the top of my list, but still damn good.

yes, i am a "what happened to the old ani" whiner/ moaner. place nails on blackboard now. anyways, even her "mediocre" stuff blows most outta the ocean. she's a powerful woman, and her lyrics are consistently best in show. she's more fallible than before, but just as human as ever.

Kerri Chyka:

RIGHTEOUS BABE

Ani is the woman and will always be the woman.

Rachel Beck:

As someone who loves poetry, I have to say that Ani's lyric writing is some of the best out there. She really pays attention to sound and sense. Oh, and she says things that just need to be said.

Ariana Baseman:

Lyrics are amazing and she's adorable on stage!

One of my favorite things about Moxy and Ani are their lyrics. The words they sing really touch me. Sometimes they're funny, but a lot of lyrics speak a truth summarized by words. Fixing Her Hair off the first or second album is one that really has a few lines to really provoke thought. Ani is truly a bundle of energy!

goovie is married!:

a must

Anyone who likes intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics should check out Ani's cds. She takes those vague feelings in your heart and articulates them thru poetry. It sounds weird, but trust me -- listen to her, and you'll know exactly what I mean.

Caroline Picker:

the queen of grrl rock

awesome, great lyrics/poetry, beautiful music

bee:

i'll never forget when Ani opened the MMA. she will rock on forever!

Tonya (Moore) Colombe:

much like MF...

there are two ani's. the "on a cd" ani, and the "on stage" ani. get to know them both.

danced with Lazlo:

Angry Chick at it's best...

Ani is "not an angry girl..." but I gotta tell you when YOU are an angry girl this is the best stuff to listen to. It's all been said before, but I'll riterate: AMAZING lyrics, extremely talented guitarist, beautiful voice, wide range of musical moods. Wonderful for roadtrips or for moping or for dancing alone in your room. Now I'll say it... I LOVE Ani!

hkath:

my personal addiction.

I can't stop spending money on her. And I'm a poor university student. Enough said. Also, all the songs I know on guitar are hers. Heh. And it's not like I only know two or something... :)

Galsan Blit:

listen to her, play her songs, doodle her poetry on your dividers......

all of it is great. songs for angry, songs for happy, songs for sad. her lyrics are amazing, her guitar stuff as well. her stuff now is so different from 10 years ago, but just as good, in some sort of twisted sense.

Laura's way behind!!:

Spiffy

I like her music ... she's very good! I think the first song of hers that I've heard was Joyful Girl ... or something like that ...... it was a pretty song

Sharona1881:

A Goddess in Human Form

Ani is literally a goddess put here on earth... she writes and sings about things that are meaninful to her and her fans... her concerts are purely spiritual and her recordings are little bits of her spirit and true self captured on tape.

allya:

she writes the songs that change/define/inspire your life. and i think that with each record she releases, we get to witness her grow and mature. my favourite album of hers is "dilate". truly a must- have. i cant decide which aspect of her music i like the best - her lyrics, her music, or her voice. have a listen and you decide.

frukid:

up up up up up up

up up up up up up is the first Ani CD I ever listned to and I suggest to EVERYONE that you go and listen to it. It's pretty amazing! She's amazing!!

Bruce Rose:

A bit hard-edged, but very strong talent.

When I first heard Ani, I wasn't impressed. Her playing was too aggressive and her vocals broken. It seemed that she was trying to assault her listeners through the ears. "Every State Line" was my turning point. I realized then that she could sing and write. I'm still not blown away by her, but I've got to give her credit: She put the music world into a completely different place. Album suggestions: Puddle Dive, To The Teeth, Imperfectly, Ani Difranco

Antony Plocido:

First off, she would easily get a 10, if it weren't for that latest double album, piece of (edited for tv). One her greatest acheivements and one of the greatest in music ever, is "Little Plastic Castles". She IS a wonderful song writer. But, I would say she is an even better guitarist. She also, started right out and made a record company and hasn't gone corporate ever. Love her, you ALL must love her.

nate...:

An amazing songwriter and musician.

Sometimes she can be a tad too political for my tastes, but she means well.

Her live performances are SO high-energy. It's phenominal.

Oh, and ... just dumped? Pick up a copy of "Dilate". This album will make you feel better. :)
