Silly, Satirical, Serious

At the Northern Lights show on 12/4/1999, I said to myself. Who is Russell Wolff. Hmm... must be some local nutcase. At the end of the show, I knew who Russell Wolff was. Russell Wolff is a songer/songwriter hailing from the land of New Jersey. Russell's hilarious set of songs like "Nipple, "Supermarket song", "Road Rage", and "The Ballad of Brian Quixote" made him an instant hit with the Fruheads in the crowd. These quirky, witty songs make a good complement to his softer side with songs like "Five Steps", and "Intertwined". Russell released his new live CD "Betcha Bite A Live One" at the Budgie Dome at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. (It's a live recording of the show at the Northern Lights, recording by Jason Reiser et. al, and a picture on the CD by Me!) These go well with his CD's "Nipple", and "Intertwined". Check him out as he tours the country, blasting his music out for whomever will listen :-)

paul takes some great pictures...

...and russell plays some great music. he's also stepped way up in my list of musical heroes for playing at the LA protests against police brutality. man, you rock.

renita:

Great Lyrics & Great Music, that seems to be the result of a lot of shit

I walked into the Russell Wolff show blind. I had never heard his music but was going because of the FruVibe and because Christina Abbott was playing with him in Seattle. I then drove 6 hours (each way) to see him (and Christina) a second time. The first song ( The Net) through me off a little - it wasn't what I was expecting I wasn't sure how I felt about it - but now it's one of my faves:) He puts on a great show (which is important to me) but the music stands alone afterwards for listening pleasure just fine :)I highly reccomend the CD's Intertwined and Nipple (which comes with a nipple keychain for now - I've been showing mine off to EVERYONE) and I esp. love the songs: "If I Were A Cop", "Unicorns", & "My Girl". Yah, so um, in conclusion, Russell rocks:)

Mike "Racer" Yoshioka:

A really great performer

The first time I met Russell Wolff was in Toronto at Frucon 3. He was doing the lights for the second and third shows, and I was standing in front of him. He was pretty nice, and everyone kept coming up to him and asking him if he would be opening for them again soon. Fast forward a few months, and I hear about Russell and Christina coming out west. Seattle, it's only a few hours away. So , Renita and I pile into the car and head on down to meet up with the rest of the Seattle Fru Crew (Minus Bill , the guy that told me Russell was coming!) The show is great , even if Russell had just driven 2 hours through forest fires and was suffering from a cold/flu. I left the show with all three of his CD's and later decided to travel down to Portland (6 hours away) a few nights later to watch them again. It was definitely worth the trip. And there's so many more songs that what's just on his CD's. Go see him live :)

lawrence:

amazing. catchy lyrics, great music.

I'm yet another of the people who saw him open for Frvous in Clifton Park last December, and then bought his CDs and went to other shows and so on. The songs are well written, and *extremely* well played. go to a show NOW!

Andrea Krause:

Quirk-rock and deep down serious acoustic goodness

Russell is a wonderful performer. He knows how to work a room and make a show fun. He's great on the guitar and his songwriting is REALLY getting better and better. See him live and hear all the gorgeous songs that haven't been released yet. I adore this man! (And I will forever love him for introducing many of us to Christina Abbott. :) )

Brian Dinsky:

Very neat man.

I met Russell at FRFF '00, where he performed for us under the Budgie Dome. It was really good, from what I can remember :-) Some of his lyrics are a bit erroneus (sp), but hat's him for you :-)

ellen, formerly evil:

Seriously funky folk funny and deep!

I was shocked to see Russell Wolff step into the tent at Falconridge, 'cuz I had seen him a week before at fire and water and really enjoyed it! Now, I just wanna see him again and again! ... And I want him to put the Atlas song on an album so I can hear it again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Mjken (My-Ken!):

Totally spiffage, man.

I got to see Russell at Manhattan Pizza in Burlington, VT a few weeks ago, and lemme tell ya, I was impressed! Half of the entertainment was his between-song commentary on various things, from the drunk people across the room to a girl standing outside who looked like a prostitute... Then he promptly went on to make up songs on the spot. I love Russell! Woo!

J. Andrew World:

Soft, quiet folk with a jazzy twist...who am I kidding!

RUSSELL WOLFF ROCKS!!! Bald man with guitar is quite ammusing, charming and funny! See him tonight!

Bruce Rose:

He's bald. What more do you need? Oh, you want songcraft? He's got that too.

You want a midwestern tour date? Too bad. That's all he's missing: a tour that goes beyond New England.
