acapella in the same vein as fruvous.

Reviews:

Mollie:

acapella in the same vein as fruvous.

Patrick Cuonze:

acapella quartet with outstanding vocal range, great lyrics can be serious & fun

danced with Lazlo:

best acapella out there.

Go see them. Now. Go. GO! I mean it! You think I'm joking? Don't make me come after you!

Andrea Krause:

A delicious blend of humor and talent

Da Vinci's notebook is a must-see. They will make you laugh, while also thoroughly impressing you with their vocal talent. They take covers in great new directions, and compose hilarious original songs. They throw themselves into a live show and make it a point to entertain. DVN is neat. :)

Kat Kunz:

witty, irreverent a cappella music. fruvous without instruments, basically.

fruvous actually help out the DVN boys cover TMBG's "shoehorn with teeth" on _bendy's law_, though i'd recommend starting with _life and times of mike fanning_, just 'cause i'm in love with "title of the song." and "ally mcbeal." *grin* but they're incredibly talented, and if they're ever playing live near you, GO.

m. badass:

"But they run out of petrol (No gas!)"

DVN's cover of "Shoehorn With Teeth" (one of my favorite songlets ever) and "Pull My Finger" are instant collapse-in-giggles hits for me. Two quivering thumbs up!

ellen, formerly evil:

WoW! Acapella!

I thought these guys were great until I saw them at a show, and now I think they are vocal gods among men! :) Plus, strangely enough, they all look alike...Anyways, they had an entire Vance Gilbert audience cracking up, it was faboo!

bee:

acapella music rocks! this group is so great! they remind me of the buffalo chips, except the buffalo chips don't usually write their own music. there's nothing better then some good old acapella. it sounds so sweet.

Jill KatFan#1 Josupeit:

like Frvous, you just have to see them live!

They are truly entertainers, plus acapella with terrific voices, harmony ( with "oral" special effects). You can't listen to "Title of the Song" without at least getting a big grin! So much fun to see them live!!

Squee:

I will love them more...

When they finally come to visit me here in Toronto. Paul said they would.

It's a girl!:

Wearing mouseketeer stigmata

Be a fishstick girl-- you know you want to! Parodies galore- boyband, beach boys, dylan, even Meatloaf! Amazingly good harmonies. Shows that make you laugh till you're sick. Hula shirts. The single that dare not speak its name. All of this is reason to bow down to their collective greatness

lawrence:

short summary of Da Vinci's Notebook

description of their vocal talent. elaboration on said talent, and the different ways in which each of them exhibits it. mention of their knack for spontaneity. examples of said spontaneity. repeated reference to their vocal talent. note about their sense of humour. tie in of sense of humour to spontaneity at shows. generic positive reference to their quality. instruction to go out and purchase their CDs.

goovie is married!:

become a fish stick girl! (or boy)

Just as vocally talented as Fruvous (if not more so), with the same goofy sense of humor and very entertaining live shows. Plus, they're all just really cool people. All hail Gregory!

Gordondon son of Ethelred:

Funny A Cappella

I don't have much more to add to the other reviews here. There funny, they sing well, Fruvous appears on one of their albums and Richard sang the Gamera song from MST3K song for us. What more do you need to know?

J. Andrew World:

This is what Frvous sounded like 10 years ago!

Davinci's Notebook is fun and whitty with there banter and sillyness only campairable to Moxy Frvous! Only hearing what Frvous was like back in there busking days, I can only imaging that there early stuff was much like DVN. Like "Ally McBeal" where they did a song parody almost entirly acapella (They did use a hermonica) and "Three Little Words" (With Julie Murphy Wells of Eddie From Ohio) with the Piano, they are becoming more than just an accapella band, they are following in Moxy Frvous' Foot steps....As Richard SHsu told me once "*I* would drive to Torronto to see Frvous!"

nate...:

SO MUCH FUN!

Not since the the Bobs lost Janie has there been an a capella band that is this engaging and hilarious live. If you get a chance to see them, do it!!!

The album stuff leaves much to be desired, but that's generally the case with vocal groups.

Nicole the Wonder Nerd:

Delightfully deranged

Put your papers in order. Listening to DVN puts you at risk of dying of laughter.

Bruce Rose:

I like DVN, but I'm glad I don't get to see them often. I've been to three shows, and they were all EXACTLY the same. The music is great, but the show is stale. Entertaining, but stale.

Prince of Orange:

Vocally talented (mostly) acapella band with funny and clever lyrics. Unlike Fruvous, I just barely managed to catch one of their live shows before THEIR hiatus! :)
