Give a short summary of this band ("Soft folk with a jazzy twist" for instance):
the best all-out power punky pop rock there is.

Reviews:

Bruce Rose:

Doin' that thing they do...

Fountains Of Wayne have a lot of quirky moments, but like all the Geek Rockers (They Might Be Giants, Too Much Joy, Weezer, even Elvis Costello), they tell stories with wit and humor. I favor the self titled debut, but Utopia Parkway is getting better each time I listen.

Grant Hutchins:

simple honest alternative with wit

Every song is good! They have a sense of humor but more importantly they have talent without ego. One of the few bands (another of course is Moxy Fruvous) that I love listening to each song on the album.

Mr. Stone IV:

the best all-out power punky pop rock there is.

The band to reaffirm your belief in power pop.

Andrea Krause:

Music you can't help but groove to.

With inescapable grooves and low-key wit, Fountains of Wayne has become one of the most delightful bands in my collection. Even after having to listen to an accidental 1 hour looping of 10 seconds of one of their songs before an iron horse show once. Now that's saying something. :)

Kat Kunz:

be still my beating heart.

brian wrote a recommendation. *grin* i should check these more often. oh! fountains of wayne! yeah, you'll love these guys. i liked their single, "radiation vibe," from years past... but their new stuff (_utopia parkway_) is even better. catchy, witty, glorious. rescue them from a used cd store near you!

Erick:

don't you DARE rock me tonight

the anti-Scorpions. Besides all the great pop songs written for FoW, Adam Schlesinger also co-wrote "That Thing You Do". Clever twists abound.

A girl named Becca:

Witty lyrics, and a really fun musical style. Well, OK, so I think boy band teeny bopper pop is fun, too, but these guys are far more original and, like, play instruments and don't need to rely on their appearance. "Troubled Times" is way up there on my list of favorite songs ever, and their upbeat stuff is great, too. I want an alien for Christmas this year! But I might settle for a red dragon tattoo. :)

nate...:

These guys are the best indie power pop group to ever exist, in my opinion. The only ones who came close were the Maggies.

Witty lyrics, great hooks... and absolutely wonderful harmonies.

They go from silly to insightful ... sometimes all in the same song.

Check out their new album, too, Welcome Interstate Managers is a real gem!

"Stacey's mom has got it goin' ON!"
Hahaha.
Schlesinger rules.

Benito Camelas:

Well, this is probably as good a band as any other of the best pop-rock bands you can think of nowadays. Their main strengths are not in having a peculiar, distinctive sound but in their hugely talented classic pop songwriting (melodies and lyrics) and tasteful arrangements.
They have expanded their sound in their last album, "Welcome Interstate Managers", which is a masterpiece (all in my opinion). Spectacular band.

Prince of Orange:

I'm coming so close to giving them a 9 (the best you can do on my music list unless your name is Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, or Dave Gregory) instead of an 8, but there's just something that isn't quite there...can't put my finger on it. Make no mistake, though, FoW is incredible. Their lyrics are clever and well-thought out, the magic they can make in the studio borders on revolutionary, and their live show doesn't disappoint. Leave the biker for Fountains of Wayne--you won't be sorry. :)
