Reviews:

Josh Woodward:

Fun Beatles-esque pop led by two sisters with lovely voices.

There is a strong connection between the Nields and Fruvous, and you need to check these guys out.

mickey:

love them harmonies, i say, i say.

foghorn leghorn got nothing on the nields. they are quite wonderful. check out their newest release, "if you lived here you'd be home now". as They would say (in 1959), it's boss.

Kat Kunz:

pop/rock led by 2 sisters who harmonize like nobody's business.

like fruvous, nothing really compares to a nields live show, so check out their tour schedule & see them when you can. (and david nields is funny as heck to watch.) gotta get over greta is their "rock" album, if you lived here... is "folk," and play falls somewhere in between, as far as album choices go. but it's all good, even the older stuff.

Andrea Krause:

Folk/pop/rock that is both fun and full of meaning.

The Nields know just how to make you smile, or dance, or think, or cry, or sing, or dream. Their songs are full of characters that become real, places you want to be...The Nields really know how to put songs together. Their live show is infused with energy and joy for life, and it's nearly impossible not to find yourself bouncing.

Adam Hartfield:

Nerissa was right.

When asked how she describes their music, Nerissa Nields replied, "Music you like." She's 100% right.

danced with Lazlo:

How do you summarize the Nields?

I'm not talented enough to write about them. Just assume it's all good and buy all of their stuff. You'll never regret it, I promise you.

not that you care:

S C O R E !

well, i adore the Nields. and i've been telling everyone, ok not everyone, but my friends.... and that's not even close to everyone, that if everyone owned a copy of their new album (or any of the others ones for that matter) it would make the world a better place. so, go forth my people, and buy Nields.

Shannon's in NC:

Live or CD, you can't go wrong with The Nields.

Great lyrics, cool music, killer energy live. What more can you ask for in music?

Maggie Deegan:

i'm floored

the first time i saw the nields i went thru an emotional turmoil, they had me laughing one minute, sobbing the next (literally), and then back to happy. listening to the nields make me wish more than ever before in my life that i have some sort of vocal talent.

Denise Donaghy:

My life-blood

The Neilds is just that, my daily dose of folk music. I have all the Cds, and listen to them daily just like I do Moxy. The energy in the music is wonderful. You can go from crying, to laughing to bitter to whimsical in 4 songs.... and they are really nice people too.

ellen, formerly evil:

Georgous harmonies!!!

I've only known about the Nields for 2 1/2 months, and I've seen them four times!!! They really speak to my experiences as a girl, and they tap into my love for the Indigo Girls with their lovely harmonies... get their new album and you won't be dissapointed!!!

Kirstin Slays Vampires:

really good, energetic and great live

Many other people here have reviewed them, probably people with more extensive experience with theire music. I saw them at Clearwater and FRFF this year and was converted from "eh, they're not bad" to "I REALLY like this band". A friend of mine said that their most recent album is really good to clean to. I actually think that's a huge compliment and entirely true. Anything that I can listen to that makes cleaning bearable gets an "A" in my book!

bee:

3 cheers for the nields

my cousin kathy who goes to school at pepperdine (malibu, CA) introduced me to the nields. she got to see them in a guitar shop and said they were amazing. once i saw them at FRFF i had to agree. eveyone should listen to them.

J. Andrew World:

My Favorate Band I have sung Back up for!

Ok so they are the *ONLY* band I ever sang back up for! I have Known about the Nields for Years back in 1997 when Frvous was on tour with them, yet strangly I never really heard there music until summer of '99. Mainly because they were rubbing in my face that I was Dumped. My Ex- Girlfreind Loved them, and when I was still trying to get over her they had to sing "I'm So Lonesome I could Cry" I hated them. However I bought "Live on Mainstage: The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival" and Fell in love with James, so I disided to give them a second chance!I went to see them (Ironicly one year to the date that I was dumped) because they were playing in my town! Then I saw them the Next day at the Clear Water Folk Festival, then again at Falcon Ridge, Solar Fest (Where I danced With David Nields) and Northampton Folk Festival (Where I realized I liked Ellen). When I saw them play at the Iron Horse on October, they asked for Volenteers and I got picked because I acted like me! And that is How I got to sing Back up for the Nields....Oh yeah, there music is cool too!

Squee:

Turning Squee back onto female vocalists.

It's true, eh. I just found that chick singers couldn't compare in terms of energy and non-obnoxiousness to most of the male singers out there. But the Nields are just as cool! Yay! They are made of good!

Cos (Ofer Inbar):

Songwriting genius, and intense live shows

The band I've seen live more than any other, and the ones who started my habit of driving several hundred miles specifically for a concert. Over the years they've picked up stuff from bands they've toured with, too. Touring with fruvous, they got better at improv and quips; touring with the Kennedys, they got into doing more jamming, and so on.

lawrence:

great lyrics, great music. fun shows.

I don't think I can get through a day without listening to something by the Nields. they rock.

Bruce Rose:

Beyond belief

There isn't a quick and easy way to summarize the Nields... they're too good for that. I was initially captured by the harmonies, but if you listen really hard, you realize that the melodies are flawless too. And they've got a bald guy... you can't go wrong with a group that's got a bald guy.

goovie is married!:

yay nields!

Beautiful harmonies, great lyrics, fun live shows, and they're all just so *cute*!

angelmusicmaven:

my favorite caterwaulers. Other than me and my buddy Chats. Also, bonus points for 3 Daves in 1 band.

nate...:

They write some very good songs, but it's very hard to get past the vocals, which are very screechy. They also crack their voices in a yodelling manner far too much.

Great songwriting talent in many cases, though.
