Give a short summary of this band ("Soft folk with a jazzy twist" for instance):
gods.

Reviews:

Kerri Chyka:

gods.

These four Irishmen are the gods of modern music. From their first punk-influenced album "Boy" to the futuristic "Zooropa," U2 proves that theyare indeed a progressive and artful band after 2 decades of making music.

Snow In Summer:

Ireland's best export. period.

i'm not going to waste my time describing their music. you've already heard it. you may have dismissed it as overpolished or too preachy. Dig out that old copy of "the Joshua Tree" or "Achtung Baby" and give it another listen...and while you're at it, be a little superficial and drool over Larry Mullen Jnr. ;-)
"the god i believe in isn't short of cash, mister!" - Bono, "Bullet the Blue Sky" from the Rattle & Hum film

Amanda Wilson:

One of my favorite rock music quotes:

(Which makes me think of Fruvous, oddly enough) Bono was talking about how he didn't care why people were listening to U2, as long as they were listening, and he said "I know some of them got into us because our drummer looks like James Dean." If you like music, U2 has something for you, somewhere.

Mike "Racer" Yoshioka:

They recognized fan disappointance,

and now they're trying to change it. Hopefully their new album will bring back some of their traditional rock sounds. Pop just didn't go over that well. Looking forward to the new cd.

K-Lyn:

Always changing and exploring... these guys are bigger than the biggest thing ever.

Mosch:

Fun and ever-changing pop music

These guys have always been a great band, the only bad thing I've ever seen them do was their silly lawsuit against negativland. They're pop music that doesn't make you think about the Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears.

David Brake:

If you don't know U2, you should be castrated!

Get Joshua Tree. Now.

Kat Kunz:

how have i missed this recommendation?

i love that the first 7 reviews are all anticipating _all that you can't leave behind_ which is, simply put, amazing. to be ranked with joshua tree and achtung, baby as the top 3 U2 purchases to be made. believe it or not, _pop_ was the first U2 album i owned (am i really admitting this publicly? yes, yes i am), and i enjoyed it enough to want to check out the back catalogue. and boy, am i glad that i did. their new tour DVD from 2001 is a must for any fan's wishlist--you *really* feel part of the action. which is good, b/c getting tickets to a show is virtually impossible. :D

goovie is married!:

"no, that's just god. he likes to pretend he's bono sometimes."

Bono jokes aside...U2's never been afraid to reinvent themselves, and while their experiments don't always meet with stellar results, they're always worth a listen. They've done new wave and political rock, explored the roots of American rock 'n' roll, tried more experimental stuff, and even completely mocked themselves. And their new CD (which has been in the works for, waht, 3 years now? :P) *is* supposed to be a return to their mid-period , Joshua Tree-type music that won over many of their fans to begin with.

Doug Smiley:

Never a bad song on any of their albums.

Bruce Rose:

They've been getting steadily worse over the years, but they still blow away practically everyone else. Rumor has it that U2 is responsible for killing off a reunion of the Police... The show was supposed to be the launching point for the Police reunion tour, and U2 (at the time, practically unknown) BLEW THEM AWAY!

Doktor Pepski, kommie:

Once again, the recent cd from the boys has run over me over like a steam roller! I think Bono's voice seems to be actually be getting better with age!
