So I have a weakness for trippy '60s movies. So what? :) The Monkees, Bob Rafelson, and Jack Nicholson (yes, Jack Nicholson) united to make this bizarre examination of the life and times of the pre-fab four and their experiences with fame. If you've ever wanted to see Davy Jones tapdance with Toni Basil (of "oh, Mickey, you're so fine!") fame, learn about the I Ching at the feet of Peter Tork, see a shirtless Micky Dolenz blow away a Coke machine, or find out just how Mike Nesmith feels about surprise parties -- or if you just have an irrational desire to see all the guys playing dandruff flakes -- Head is the movie for you.

Agent Scully:

"Quiet isn't it? George...Michael...Dolenz....I said..."

This movie also had Teri Garr's first speaking role.

"Quick, suck it before the venom reaches my heart."

"Are you gonna help me or not?"

A must see for any Monkees fan but expect weirdness and things you don't understand unless you're an old film buff.

Or maybe you'll get the meaning of the big black box. ;)

To think I saw this at the TLA in Philly on August 1, 1986 during the weekend of the 20th anniversary Convention for the Monkees.

Um. I think Carey pretty well summed it up. The first time we saw it, we thought "the hell?" The second time, we were scared because it made sense to us. Do not see if you want a linear plot structure- but if you've always wanted to see Sonny Liston beat the crap out of Davy Jones- this is the film for you!

Just seeing the name of this movie takes me back to a time when my sister and I wrote daily notes to each other (which we stuck up on our bathroom cupboard in the morning)... they were aaaall Monkees quotes, every one of them. Already owning the album, this movie was a quest for us, our holy grail, finally viewed by me during my freshman year in college at at tiny movie theater in Pittsburgh. I loved it, from start to finish... still I think my second viewing, at home with my sister on a worn video tape will be always my favorite.

Crying to the sky
But the porpoise is laughing good-bye, good-bye
good-bye, good-bye, good-bye

I'd like a glass of cold gravy with a hair in it, please.
