Review of "Erin McKeown" |
Information:What's the band's name? Erin McKeown What's the album's name?We Will Become Like Birds Reviews:This has some great tracks, especially "Aspera". Unfortunately, as much as I adore Erin, she still can't really put together a truly great album. There's a lot of filler material here, and lyrically some her worst stuff, with all the so-so flight metaphors and awkward wording ("you are made for flight / from the structure of ourselves / to the chambers we share inside"). Even the Peter Mulvey duet comes across as awkward. I'm with Josh on this one... I *love* some of the songs... but much of it is pretty weak lyrically.
The peter duet was also a weak point. I mean, despite the strong tracks on here.. it just isn't that strong an album as a whole. I think I'll have to agree with both of you guys about the lyrics. Especially the duet with Mulvey... I really love that if I ignore the lyrics, but that's difficult.
On a more positive note, there are some killer tracks. "Float," for one, "Aspera" too, plus "Bells and Bombs." To rate this, log in.
