When to take the Christmas decorations down...

but this year we were going to get it done earlier. This has not happened. Some of this has been due to laziness and the fact that the task is quite daunting since our tree is too big... some of it is due to having to shovel snow instead. In any case, it really really needs to be done. Sigh. The 6th is nearly upon us.
this poll came from a conversation I had with Renita about when to De-Christmas you house/apt/crawl space..
and she said Jan 6th! I tend to pull everything down on jan 1, but this year, I waited a few days longer.. Thanks for your input! Thought this might breed some conversation! HAPPY NEW YEAR! ~J~

honestly, i never put up X-mas decorations. that's because i and/or whomever i'm living with travel to celebrate with family & they have their houses decorated. one of my cow-orkers actually couldn't fathom the fact i let other peoples' decorations be enough. i had to remind her that my co-habitating boyfriend & i were not only going to my mom's house, but also his parents' house (and trust... both were quite festive). i just figure that if i'm only home & awake 3-5 hrs a day with most of those being between 10PM & 2AM and i'm travelling on X-mas day... why bother with decorations which will take longer to put up/away than i'm going to be home? and why bother spending money on a tree which is up for somewhere around 1/10th of the year?
or could it be that the holidays depress the hell out of me, so why remind myself of it?

Well, I put my Chanukkah menorah away as soon as the holiday ends... mom's are still on her windowsill. But I don't think that's what we're talking about so I'll just go with the insensitive clod option. :)
we have a silver-and-blue metallic small tree, dubbed the hannukah bush, that is decorated with the few free ornaments that i've collected over the years and dont even bother to remove from the tree when i store it. same with the lights that used to be in my dorm freshman year.
it's also garland'ed with an old computer mouse. so i still went for the insensitive clod option, as it's not a christmas decoration, it's a hannukah bush.
yeah, you could also think of this poll, as "When to put away the Menorah", or pick the insensative clod option! either is fine! :)

i decorated the christmas tree at work this year! wheeeeeee!
and remarkably crap it looked, too, seeing as a) we're not allowed a real tree because it's a "fire hazard", and b) all the christmas decorations were cheapy ones and half the fairy lights didn't work. heh :D
Yup, I agree with Emilie. I was always told and taught that you can't remove the decorations until January 6th. Also we play christmas music until then. :)
I guess that's when the Three Wise Men finally made it to the manger. They took a wrong turn at Albequerque (sp?). </bugs bunny>
I used to keep my pretty glass menorah out on display all year. That was until I dropped it and it shattered. Can't trust me with anything.
The old menorah I got from my parent's house has been put away, but the pretty box of beeswax candles is still out. And I always keep my pretty painted wood and glass dreidles out on the tchotchke shelf. And there are still latkes frozen in the freezer from my mom's Chanukah party. Does that count for anything?
You beat me to the insensitive clod punch.
If I were Christian I'd probably be planning on taking down the decorations in the next week or so, of course they'd have been up since Christmas 1996.
heh :D
i though it was that you can't leave them up after jan 6th because it's bad luck, lest thou be smited (smitten??) by the lord, or something :D
heh
you ever seen the News Radio episode where Dave says they all can go early on Christmas eve if their work is all done frist? Joe thinks it will be sad if everyone comes back after Christmas and the decorations are all still up..so he puts them all in the trash, and runs around the office pulling everything down and then all the staff is bummed anyway? heh! good times...bad Joe! ~J~
why the 6th? it's christmas eve! tomorrow is christmas! we wait at least until the 8th........at least when i get my way we do. *grin*
