bake. scoop out the insides, mash. add milk, butter and cheddar cheese. put the mix back into the potato skin. bake again. eat.
Jºnªthªn Back · 19 years ago
Why stop there? More butter! More baking!
Phoenix · 19 years ago
I *love* potatoes in any shape. Definitely. Must be some kind of national heritage :D
lawrence Back · 19 years ago
I *love* potatoes in any shape.

'What shape do you usually have? Mickey Mouse shape? Amphibious landing craft shape?'

50 points to anyone who can identify the source. :)
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 19 years ago
what about "poke in the eye shape?"
Talcott Back · 19 years ago
Yeah, the only way potatoes are bad is when there's mayo involved. Beyond that, you can't go wrong.
I went with roasted though, becasue that's still Zilpha and my new-fun-cooking-thing.

Nik Chaikin Back · 19 years ago
Spuds of any kind, but especialy mashed with lots of garlic.
Annika Back · 19 years ago
Mmmmmm. Garlic potatoes are soo good!
When I get back to Washington I'm going grocery shopping for potatoes. I need this poll again in exactly 3 weeks, is there any way this can happen? ; )
nitsita Back · 19 years ago

fries+mayo = delicious.

...but I'm quebecois..

sheryls Back · 19 years ago

i love it too.

nitsita Back · 19 years ago
yeah but we're twins ;)
sheryls Back · 19 years ago

i seem to be 3 people's twins for separate reasons. :D

and none of them are physical as i look nothing like you, andrea or jenna :D

Michael (foof) Maki Back · 19 years ago
Hmm. You're not a potato salad fan?

I *love* the stuff.
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
blech, I can't stand it. Hate mayo and mustard so that rules most of them out. Also, cold potatoes aren't usually my thing.
Michael (foof) Maki Back · 19 years ago
Well, I *knew* that you're sick and wrong... It just comes as a suprise to me that Talcott is. ;-D
Talcott Back · 19 years ago
I'm not sick and wrong, mayo is.

Nothing good involves mayo. It's a fact. :-D
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago

I'm with Talcott on this. Except the places where it's unobtrusive and you don't know it's there. And I hope to never know it's there. Because it may force me to dislike something I like. Like, I choose to ignore its presence in ranch dressing. :)

Mayo is definitely one of those weird foods that is made up of stuff I have nothing against...but the outcome is grody. Kinda like hollandaise. or cheesecake.

Talcott Back · 19 years ago
I dunno, I can't stand ranch dressing either ;-)

What's odd is that cheesecake is one of the only two ways I do like cream cheese (although I've never understood the cheesecake obsession). I like it there, and as frosting on carrot cake.

But, yeah, I'll never understand how eggs, which I love, and oil, which I have no problem with, can turn so vile when mixed together ;-)
nate... Back · 19 years ago
Mayo rocks the casbah.

Best. condiment. evar.

Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
I'm not big on condiments. I only really use ketchup and even that only on a burger or fries.
nate... Back · 19 years ago
Sandwiches are just an excuse to eat condiments. ;)

I used to sometimes eat mayo sandwiches.... just mayo and bread. hehe
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
See, and to me they ruin a perfectly good sandwich. I get so pissed when sandwiches are made with mayo by default. :)
sheryls Back · 19 years ago

it depends on my mood, sometimes i want a sandwich drenched in mayo and mustard and sometimes i want it dry.

it depends on the sandwich, too :D

hot dogs, however, have One True Condiment, and that is Mustard.

Talcott Back · 19 years ago
Yeah, I'm fine with a little bit of mustard, but not the idea that "it's in a sandwich, it must have mayo". Any time I get a sandwich from a gas station or something (when on the go, it's better than chips at least), I have to scrutinize the ingredients because the mayo is never listed alongside the big title of "ham and cheese".

It's actually harder to find non-mayo foods up here in Maine where most group meals seem to involve lobster rolls. Even McDonalds sells them.

Of course, now I have Nate and Babs Bunny forever fused in my mind.
"Mayo on white. Delish."

That's exactly what I was thinking!
nate... Back · 19 years ago
Well, I mean, have you ever seen us in the same place at the same time?

HMMMMM?

nate... Back · 19 years ago
Oh yeah....
I forgot to point out that the best potato salads don't involve mayo. So it definitely isn't ruled out. :)

When I make potato salad I pretty much never use mayo.

Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
Do you use mustard?
nate... Back · 19 years ago
not really... well, I mean, maybe a tiny bit to emulsify the vinaigrette... but you could use something else.

Paul D. Beasi · 19 years ago
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
Nik Chaikin Back · 19 years ago
you need duct tape too.
Shelly Back · 19 years ago

HOW COULD I DECIDE???
Heartbreak sucks Back · 19 years ago
Ditto!

I had some killer hashbrowns in Akron the other night, and loves me some Skyline cheddar potatoes, and twice-baked 'tatoes, and fries (curly and otherwise!), garlic mashed... *drool*
Andrea Krause · 19 years ago
I had to go for baked but scalloped is a close second. It all depends on my mood. I also love red potatoes cubed and steamed with butter and romano on them.
I can see the bunny Back · 19 years ago
Red potatoes are also much healthier (not to mention yummier) that regular potatoes. *Love* smashed red potatoes with a bit of sour cream and fresh chives.
nate... Back · 19 years ago
not only that... any new potato is so much better.... baby b's.. yukon golds....
I love 'em.

sheryls · 19 years ago
OMG POTATO JUNK!

i even registered potatojunk.com :D
Phoenix Back · 19 years ago
Dwd. You've made me hungry. Hmm. Cheddar.
sheryls Back · 19 years ago
dwd, it's so good. and you have to bake it until the corners get brown-ish and crunchy, and then have a colossal fight with your siblings over who gets teh crunchy corners.
stealthlori Back · 19 years ago
omg crunchy-cornered potatoes. *dies and goes to Valhalla*

I am mad for things that aren't supposed to be crunchy, but the tops/edges get that way anyway when they're a wee bit "over" baked (according to the people that consider them overbaked, anyway). Mac 'n' cheese. Lasagna. Brownies. And potato dishes.

yummmmmmm.
nate... · 19 years ago
It really depends on mood.
Right now, I could really go for a baker, so I went with that, but I like all of the above.... except hash browns. I far prefer homefries.
J. Andrew World · 19 years ago
I dress my potatos up like Pete Best!
Kris 'engaged' Bedient · 19 years ago
I love potatoes. When I was in high school, I used to nuke them in the microwave and use them as pocket warmers in the winter, and then when they had cooled enough I would eat them like apples, skin and all. I could live on potatoes alone.
Samantha Back · 19 years ago

I once heard this guy tell a fable about that... and then there was one about the seasons, and a boy tricking Father Winter by throwing Spring's tree-sap in his eyes..

it was actually rather interesting..

stealthlori Back · 19 years ago
but the skins are SO much better when they're oven-baked. without foil. foil-wrapped potatoes are Just Wrong.

Didn't Laura Ingalls Wilder write about the potato-handwarmer thing in one of the Little House books?
*joolee* · 19 years ago
I'ma have to go with twice backed potatoz. *swoons*
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 19 years ago
Po-Tay-Toes, the gaffers delight

Why does Marcia get all the potatoes?

I'll go hide now.
Samantha · 19 years ago
Mashed.. fries... or made into latkes o_o
stealthlori Back · 19 years ago
you had to bring up latkes, didn't you? *sobs*

with applesauce, and sour cream, and mmmmmmm.
Shelly Back · 19 years ago

now i am thinking of the POTATO CAKES{!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!} booth at FRFF.

*whimper*

i'm irish. please don't make me choose. :P
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years ago
Watch out Itchy she's Irish.

Some real life prejudice residue.

My father used to call a potato made on an open fire or grill a Mickey. He didn't mean it in a prejudicial way and stopped when it hit him what the origin of the term was. Of course they are so good you might argue that it is a compliment to the Irish.

excellent point.

I'm thinking about olive oil, garlic, and rosemary roasted potatoes right now. Not terribly heirloomish for me, but mmmmmmmm.

On top of Shepherd's Pie. Mmmmmmmmm...
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years ago
shepherd's pie is stalking me. I hadn't had it in months, if not over a year. Then I got a sudden craving and decided to kinda wing it and invent my own version earlier this week. Ate it, yum. Then the very next day it was being served in the cafe. (I didn't eat that though because it was lamb and while I know that's the norm, I don't eat lamb.) Then this morning it was mentioned on the radio. And now you write about it. Spooooooky. :)
Geoff Back · 19 years ago
It's been my favorite dish ever since my mom used to make it for me, when I was but a wee Geoffling.
sheryls Back · 19 years ago
is that like "When single shines the triple sun, what was sundered and undone, shall be whole, the two made one, by Geoffling hand, or else by none?"
Geoff Back · 19 years ago
See, you're obviously a whole lot geekier than I am. And that's saying something. I used to go to Star Trek cons. In uniform.

It comforts me that no voters have hated potatoes. Might be a perfect food. :)
