Fru-clothing for sale

   Discussion: Fru-clothing for sale
Chris "Father" O'Malley · 17 years, 7 months ago
Hello all,

The thread about the hockey jersey had me thinking...

Back in my fruvous heyday, I bought a TON of fru-clothing. I usually bought 2 of every piece of clothing they were offering, one to wear and one to set aside.

Well, I just ran across the box and realized I'm probably never gonna wear this extra stuff. Why not pass it on to people who would give it a good home?

I have a couple hats, a hockey jersey, and probably 12-18 T-shirts (definition Ts, Moon Ts, Live Noise Ts, Boyfriend tour Ts, and other Ts, most of them extra large, although I have 2 or 3 baby Ts too). The question is: what's the best way for me to sell all this? Ebay? Or should we have some kind of auction right here on FHDC? (I would love to give them away, but I did shell out some good bread for all these gems :)

Josh, if you see this and it's do-able as an auction on FHDC, I'd rather do that and avoid the ebay middle-man. Otherwise, I'm planning on putting them on ebay (I see a baby T on ebay currently being sold by someone else). I want to ask the fruhead crowd first before I proceed, tho.

What do you all think?

I actually have one of those. I might consider selling it.

I think that ebay would be the way to go.  Let's face it, since most of these items will never be produced again, they are considered collectible, and someone (not me) will probably pay more for them than you did.

I’m going to make the assumption that you will be the sole person benefiting on the auction proceeds.

If that happens on (FHDC), I believe that you would be taking advantage of your relationships with FHDC and josh, to save some cash.  How would everyone else benefit?

If a portion of the sales were used to benefit the fruhead community somehow, then I probably would object less.  As I understand it now, Jason Reiser provides fhdc with all the bandwidth, as there are no longer donations accepted as there once was.  I don't know how else the fruhead community could benefit, short of somehow helping to get more live shows in circulation.

On a completely different subject, has anyone contacted fruvous headquarters concerning Moxy Fruvous' addition to's etree project?  Eddie From Ohio, rusted root, guster, and many other well known bands have shows on there.  Josh woodward will have shows up there eventually, or so he says  ;)   What about fruvous?  I'd be willing to upload some of my shows;  I hope others would be willing to do the same.

I'd rather do it on FHDC since that would make it more private and exclusive to the fruhead community.

And, yes, I will be the sole person getting the proceeds. With all due respect, the fruhead community didn't chip in when I bought them. ;-)

Jason and I go back pretty far. Hell, I helped pay for some of the initial domain name registration. :)

I could always just do all this on ebay, but I wanted to get opinions from fruheads.

I saw Josh up there actually, but I don't remember seeing any of his shows yet.... My band, Lost in America, has three shows up there at the moment... I'm looking forward to Josh's stuff... I've downloaded the MP3s from his site... pretty good. Too bad he live on the other side of the state, cause we should do a show together.

I think it should be here. That way it will be far more likely to go to a real fan rather than someone trying to make an investment

I think it's a good idea to sell them here.

A: They're going to good homes.

B: You might get more!

I'm all for it.

no no no no, you should auction them heeeeeere! :) even if i didn't win anything personally, i'd rather i knew that they were going to an actual fruhead who knew the significance of, and would cherish, the garment or whatever that they'd won. i hate the way that sometimes on ebay random people can pop up at the last minute and you just know they've never even heard of fruvous or something. there are so many people on FHDC who want these sorts of items but can never seem to be able to get their hands on them... i think it should be an FHDC-ers only auction, and if other people want to bid, then they can get themselves a login here. so there. :)

I have never tried going on EBay, although I pop on from time to time to see how much certain items are going for , especially TMBG merchandise.  I know in the past that my Long Tall Weekend CD was worth $75 at one point there.

And I've herad about the people who watch auctions and then at the last second swoop in and outbid everyone.  Bad practice, and it's the danger of EBay.  And I only know this from Weird Al's "Ebay" song. :)

As someone who buys a lot of stuff on Ebay.... the only way to do an auction is to bid in the last 30 seconds.
Otherwise you just drive the price up needlessly.

Very handy, tho... and much cheaper than stores (online or IRL) in many cases. You just have to know what you could get the item for new, and make sure you don't get into a "bidding frenzy" and do something stupid like buying a used one for more than that.

(I've seen this happen with audio gear.... saw an SM57 go for $120 used... when you can buy it for, like, $70 or $80 new.)

I'd love to hold the auction here, definitely. Unfortunately, things are a little too busy around these parts to create the needed mod/auction to do it right. There may be a way to make it work with forums, though. If you want me to create a temporary forum, with one thread per item where people can post to bid, let me know. I'd be happy to pop up a news item while the auction goes on.
Chris "Father" O'Malley Back · 17 years, 7 months ago

I was thinking of using forums too.

How bout a forum like you described, but the poster's name is visible only to the seller (that would be me ;) People would obviously be able to see the other bids, but not who bid how much, ya know?

Also, to prevent sniping, what if the auction ends let's say 12 hours after the most recent bid (after the auction has been up for a day or so or something).

I definitely think we could pull it off with forums as long as people follow a pre-determined posting convention and don't do silly stuff.

Chris "Father" O'Malley · 17 years, 7 months ago
What I think I may do is just put a text page up on FDC that lists the items. I'll update it at least once a day (probably more) with the most recent max bid. People can just email me the bid...I'll keep track of everything.

I'm thinking of starting the quasi-auction next Monday and let it run till the end of the week.

Anything that doesn't get any bids during the first week can sit there if anyone else wants to make an offer later. I want to get rid of this stuff! :)
