Songs Not On Any CDs

Discussion: Songs Not On Any CDs
Lost In Reality · 21 years, 1 month ago
I know that we are all going through Fruvous withdrawal. I was looking up some lyrics recently, and it reminded me of all the songs I have never heard. I own all the CDs except Live Noise which I can easily get, but what about songs like Love Potion #9 Medley, Photosynthesis, La Complainte Du Phoque En Alaska, etc. There are so many seemingly great songs that I believe have never been released. Why!? I have already tried Kazaa, although I hate resorting to that, but even Kazaa has failed me. I can't seem to locate any of these rare finds. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks

Yup!
I'd recommend setting up a trade or something of the like with one of the fine folks in the Live Tape Trading area of the site.
(Specifically those who list themselves as "Newbie Friendly".)

:)

(I would offer myself, but all my gear is packed up in the basement, and I just have no time to do trades anymore.. *sigh*)

Also, if you're digitally inclined, check out www.furthurnet.org (that extra 'u' isn't a typo). It's basically a P2P app for trading live shows of bands that are okay with it.

Fruvous is already listed and, hey, it beats CDRs and bubble mailers. But, being a P2P, it's only got as many shows as the people who sign on...

Someone needs to tell Fruvous about Archive.org. It is a place where you upload shows, so it is not a P2P thing. EFO has a handful of shows there, and the one I downloaded from 2003 is fantastic. Once Fruvous gives the okay, a whole generation of live shows can be uploaded there, perhaps sparking a small renaissance amongst those who missed the Fruvous Live Show boat.

You're elected John. Martina has already been approved, so Jian must be aware of it. Write him at [email protected]

Actually, unless policy has changed, they probably won't give it the thumbs-up. Back in The Day, they were fine with postal trading and private FTP sites, but not public archives. This may well have changed since then, but don't get too excited :)

Yeah, but there never was a project like this back then, and they weren't on indefinite hiatus back then either. That Jian has ok'd Martina is a hopeful note

so, whats up with the live tape trading? does fruvous actually let people record their concerts? isn't that sort of bootleggish/semi-illegal?

goovie is married! Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
fruvous let people record most of their shows, with the understanding that the tapes would be traded, not sold.
nate... Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
Yep.
There were still a couple shows they requested not be taped... and that was obviously honored.

But yeah, they were always very open to tapers.
goovie is married! Back · 21 years, 1 month ago
yeah, there were a few shows in november '99...my first show being among them.
and they asked us not to show anyone the frubecue video. :)

There was also that horrible, scarring incident in a bookstore in Ann Arbor.

Oh wait, that didn't happen. No. Nevermind :)

No need Chrissy, dahling. :) I made MP3s of these a long time ago when a few people asked me for them. They have been here for a while, but are not advertised so as not to cut into Jack Micay's revenues. Please don't distribute these beyond the FHDC community, but you can get them at http://www.joshw.org/mp3/energy/

Fruvous has lots of material that they didn't deem worthy for release on a CD. Some of these songs are covers, and some are just too silly, or too topical (in the lad's minds) to be worthy CD material.

The only place you are going to find recordings of these songs is on live show tapes, and even then some of them Like "La Complainte" are very very rare. I have personally seen every song except a few of their very early ones performed SOMWHERE, but in many cases I've only seen something done once or twice.

Yes. Yes, it was. :D

I quickly went through a couple discs and pulled out a few tunes that people asked for, or mentioned in passing. The quality varies due to recording source, transfer technique, etc, but they are listenable for the most part. I'll agree with what AJ says, keep them off the P2P networks, and within the fruhead community. And don't kill my bandwidth!

Thanks! How often do I get to hear Fruvous I've never heard before?!?

I just have to thank everyone for their help. This community is just so amazing with how tight it is. Together we can get through this hiatus
