Dream Event

   Discussion: Dream Event
Bender · 20 years, 7 months ago

Last night, I decided where I want my wedding to be. Not that I necessarily have someone to get married to at the moment (we shall see, we shall see), but I like thinking about this kind of thing. Where, you may ask? The Temple of Dendor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. So cool. Okay, I'll stop being an Egypt freak for a minute.

So here's the question: What neatoriffic place would you like to have your wedding/similar event? To include those of you who are married, where was yours? Were there evil clowns involved? Or perhaps... aged superheroes?

I wanna get married at Falcon Ridge.

Not really. that sentence just came to me. it would be interesting, wouldn't it? i want the nields to sing at it, and I want the Santa sign language guy there too.

I actually really like that idea. :) Too bad it totally wouldn't work for a lot of the non-freak-like-me people I'd want to invite. :) I could have two weddings. One for the people who "get it" and then a stuffier fancier one for the rest of 'em. :)

The Budgiedome is also high on my list for a place to get married. OK it wouldn't work for my family but I'd love a second ceremony there for my friends. Could Steve officiate on the same principal that allows a captain to perform marriages on a ship?

Is there anyone amongst us who would be considered a justice of the peace?
Misch Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
If I bring my Nerf gun, could I be the Sargeant-at-arms of the Peace?
Bender Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Yes. We'll get you a Roman centurian costume and all will be well.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
You just want to see Paul in the little skirt.

a few years back two people got married at the Mission Folk Festival in BC.

so. it's not totally unheard of.
Victoria Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
The Santa sign language guy should, one way or another, get the legal certification necessary to perform a wedding.
Misch Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
It's kind of tough to do that in NY. There are limits as to whom can be appointed. Here's a list.

I think we'd have to take the "spiritual group" route...

a member of the clergy or minister who is not authorized by a governing church body but who has been chosen by a spiritual group to preside over their spiritual affairs;

Translation: time to start the Church of Santa Interpreters.

Oh, I'm sure Dave would be thrilled. ;-)

Of course, you could probably have an unofficial ceremony at FRFF and then just have the real ceremony some time later in front of a judge.

(Be forewarned that in NY there is a 24 hour waiting period between the time that you apply for a marriage license and when you can have the ceremony.)

Yeah, or you can just be ordained online by the ULC.

Then you can perform it fine.

I'll have mine right across Central Park from yours at the American Museum of Natural History. You can have receptions in the Hall of Ocean Life beneath the live-sized model of a blue whale. I was at the You've Got Mail premier party there and it was pretty spiffy. I had wanted it there from before then.

My cousin actually had my dream wedding. The ceremony was at the Planetarium in the Franklin Institute complete with a Powerpoint presentation projected on the dome. There was also a candy ceremony (Was that the right word?) that involved eating Hershey's Kisses.

The reception was in the Hall of Dinosaurs at the nearby Academy of the Natural Sciences.

I always thought it would be neat to get married in the forest. Like in a place you have to hike to. Except for the bugs, and the possibility of someone coming to see the wedding not being able to make it because they can't do the hike... There are a lot of reasons why that wouldn't work. I think going on a series of hikes would be a great honey moon though. Dude... now I kinda want to get married...
jen Back · 20 years, 7 months ago

i want an anti-wedding. all the antigrooms will be exes and all other guys who have sucked all remaining notion of "happily ever after" outta me. i'll invite all other jaded people out there and have a real hootenanny ;)

I'd get married in the rainforest that's in the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto. Wait, scrap that, I'd get married in the rainforest. B.C. or Brazil...it would depend on my budget.
Bender Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
BC has a rainforest? Not the tropical kind, I'm assuming...
Yvonne Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Not tropical, but still a rainforest in terms of the rainfall and number of species, I think...if Iknew anything about ecology/biology/whatever I'dbe able to explain it.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
It is a temporate rainforest.
Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 7 months ago

That explains why they called itBritish *Colombia*

Outside, sun, little bit of wind. Lots of flowers, water somewhere nearby, maybe in front or next to a lake. Maybe fall...Something movie romantic...hehe
nate... Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Yeah, one of the best weddings I went to was my friend Jen's.... she had it out in this field in VT.
Beautiful sunny day... it was short but sweet..

And afterwards we had a bonfire and BBQ.

I have worked out where my honeymoon will be nut not my wedding. This way if I reach 40 and am not married I can still go and use the money i saved by not getting married... I choose the following: the silk trail in China but IF i do find the right person I will marry in Daoui Abbey in redaing which will be handy for my Mum to make from the nursing home she will probably be i byt he time I manage to tie the knot.
Yvonne Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
I wonder where the expression "tie the knot" came from.
Bender Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
does it come from the pagan handfasting ceremony?
nate... Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Sure does.
Yvonne Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
