I'm on a roll. With cream cheese. Make that a bagel. An everything bagel. And a small coffee regular.
Bender Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
dude. if it's a toasted everything bagel with whitefish salad, I'd follow you forever and be your willing slave. for a bagel. or something.

I went with "a bit of a geek" but what I really mean is "aspiring geek." I'm workin' on it.

:)

I'm a geek. Very geek. I don't care if the quiz I took on my blog last year said only 33% geek. I'm very geek. And very proud of it, too. :)

So, anyway, I went with I'm a geek. Just a simple statement of fact. I'm not an bergeek, I'm neither particularly proud nor ashamed of it, I don't try to deny it or cultivate it or quash it... I just am.
Bender Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
I'm not ashamed to admit it... geekboys are damned sexy. And don't even get me started on geekgirls.
Erato Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

Hell yeah to the geekgirls thing.

Im sick of the sheik geek thing.
Im more interested in how many of you are nerds as more people are less likely to call themselves nerds than geeks.
yet to me they mean the same thing.
I am neither.

and what are the qualifications to consider yourself a geek?
emilie is CRANKY Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
yeah, where's the 'not really a geek but would like to think i am' option? :D
nate... Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
heh...they're not even close to the same thing.
except that geeks and nerds are often in the same social circles. :)

But, incidentally, I consider myself to be both a nerd and a geek.

Nathan Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
I consider myself a nerd, and I'm neither particularly proud nor ashamed of that fact. I don't consider myself a geek, but I'm sure other people do. Really, I'm not totally sure what the difference is, but "geek" sounds more insulting, at least to me. I guess I generally think of geeks as people with mad computer skillz, and I'd say I'm only average in terms of computing.
Julie Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
hehe yah thats it.
nate... Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
yeah, "geek" is usually used to refer to one's computer skills....

But, I've also seen it used for many technically/electronically apt people.

Generally speaking, it's a compliment amongst people I know.

Talcott Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
See, I've always seen "geek" as being a suffix to mean one is interested (read: obsessed) with something. Or many things if used alone.

Computer geek
Lit geek
Gamer geek
Curling geek
Movie geek
Music geek

and so on.
stealthlori Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

and hellyeah to the geekboys too.

I'm a bit of a geek, myself. I don't think I really have the geek thing down. It requires too much commitment and concentration. ;) I'm more of a dilettante in geekish matters.

I put "geek and proud of it" I think geeks are absolutely sexy and cool.

You can totally tell this is a Fruhead poll. :)

Some of my family, friends and acquaintances think of me as a geek, but they are wrong. They just know even less about computers than I do. So, if you fix their broken computer, which is usually caused by a lack of firewall or an out of date or non existent virus definition file, or show them how to set up a budget on a spreadsheet, accounting with a database, they think you know all there is to be known about computers. I'm not a geek. I just learn what I need to and I am really glad that I hardly ever need to use command lines any more.
radiogatorgirl · 20 years, 4 months ago
I never thought I was a geek, but all of my friends point out my geek tendancies (worthless knowledge, an affinity for bands that no one around here has heard of {which personally, I think means they're just lagging, I mean jeesh, internet, Hello! Learn about these bands!} and my tendancy to bite the heads off of chickens ;^) )
Magical Bob · 20 years, 4 months ago
I would say that I could be a geek if I felt like it, but I try to restrain myself when I am in 'elitist' company who would look down on me. If there are other geeks, heck, I'd be one too.

If anything though, I'm a dork. A dork/geek. Wow. The fact that I put so much thought into that comment shows how geeky I am. Shoot...
