so how did this work? who played what? Did everyone stick with their instruments the entire time, or did they trade off from song to song?
hkath Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
They traded off, although I don't believe Erin touched the drums except in jest. Otherwise, yeah - Andy and Jian both had turns on guitar, bass and drums. I can't remember on which specific songs, though.

The only thing I remember for sure, instrument-wise, from the show I went to in Noho: For an encore, they played With or Without You, and Jian started singing about Andy Gibb, and Erin pretended to get exasperated and walked offstage, then Andy followed and so Jian, who was playing bass on the song, said, "I don't need you guys," walked over to the drum kit and started playing kick drum and bass at the same time, and continued to sing, "Andy Gibb... Andy Gibb... Andy Gibb has gone away..." until they eventually returned and managed to get him to end the song. It was pretty hilarious. I wish someone had a tape of that. Also Erin spent the whole evening throwing various fruit into the balcony, and almost beaned someone :)

They did With or Without You pretty much the same way at The Bottom Line. I'll have that done later in the week hopefully.

Ever since the announcement of this tour, I've been wondering how they sounded. Thanks a ton, Dan!
