The first Fruvous show of 2000. Good setlist, and the crowd was pretty good. If you have any questions, email me: [email protected]

Ahhhhhh! I'm not insane! I kept asking if anyone remembered them singing "you're crazy... crazy for killing that ferret..."
hkath Back · 20 years, 5 months ago
You could've asked me! I remembered that without the aid of visual prompts! :D

(and man, if someone had forgotten anything about that night, it should probably have been me. uck)

I don't mean to sound naive, but what is a torrent? I found Fruvous after they stopped touring, so I am totally new to this concert thingie. Please tell me what a torrent is and how I use it and all that stuff. Wait, does it let me download songs? What does it do? Please? Pretty please?

Jason posted this elsewhere. Reproduced without permission ;)

What's BitTorrent? : It's a peer-to-peer distribution method for all sorts of content, in this case an audio recording.

What do I need? : You need a few things...
1 - a fast internet connection. This is 690MB in all... no MP3 compression means you get what the taper got... but it also means the files are pretty big.
2 - a BitTorrent Client. There are several available for Windows, Macs OS9, OSX, Linux and other 'NIX command lines, etc.
3 - an SHN decompression utility - also several available.
4 - a CD Burner and audio cd burning software.

Many of you probably have 1 and 4... so for the other parts:

Windows BitTorrent Clients (just need any ONE of these):
ABC:
http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/download.html
TorrentStorm:
http://www.torrentstorm.com/pages/d...hp?downloadid=2
Official BT Client:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...torrent-3.3.exe

Windows SHN Decompression Utilities (either will work - MKW probably easier):
MKW Audio Compression Tool:
http://home.att.net/~mkw/mkwact/mkwACT097b1.exe
Shorten32:
http://www.etree.org/shncom.html

Mac OSX:
BitTorrent Client:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...3a.dmg?download
Shorten stuff:
http://www.etree.org/macos.html#download

And just to contradict myself...
- If you don't have a CD burner, or just want to listen on your computer speakers, there's an SHN plugin for WinAMP available at
http://www.etree.org/shnamp.html

- If you already have NERO software for burning CDRs, you can skip the decompression and grab a plugin that will do it on-the-fly. See http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/

Ok, I did all that stuff. How do I work it? I am very low-tech. What do I click and download to get the songs? Thank you!

-The Ever Magical Bob

dgodwin Back · 20 years, 5 months ago

If you did it right, just click on the torrent link:

http://tracker.bargainville.org/download.php?id=52&file=mfruvous2000-01-01.shnf.torrent

A window should pop up, asking you where you want to save it to. Choose a location, and click ok. It'll make a new folder for you (mfruvous2000-01-01.shnf) where you'll eventually find all the songs once the download completes. Enjoy!

Magical Bob Back · 20 years, 5 months ago
Oops! I forgot to sign up at the Bargainville Tracker Website. I should create an account before I complain, huh? Oopsies! Don't I look foolish?
Magical Bob Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

I downloaded all the things you told me to and installed all the parts of them. I created an account on theBitTorrent site. I did a BitTorrent Dance to appease the computer demons. Nothing worked. Well, the dance almost did, but I tripped at the last sequence, angering the computer demons again. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! This is so frustrating. What have I forgotten? Please, please tell me!

Downloading this will take hours if you're on DSL or cable.

What are you seeing on your screen? Can you do any screen caps of error messages?
Magical Bob Back · 20 years, 4 months ago

I have comcast. My problem is that I never see anything happen when I click except for one downloading box popping up and then disappearing. I tried to read it, but it disappears in, literally, one second. However, it said that it was downloading the info. into a temporary folder. I have no idea what that means. Also, the ABC device mentions a torrent URL. Do I need to write something there? I am so confused...

BTW, thank you for all your help so far!

-The Frustrated Magical Bob

hkath Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
Instead of clicking the links we keep posting here, why not try copying them and then pasting them in the URL box of ABC? That should also work, but only if you click the direct torrent link (not the tracker)
Magical Bob Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
I tried that already. I just get a box that tells me that it is not a valid torrent URL. grr...
A.J. · 20 years, 4 months ago
Well this one seems to have died quickly. Could someone reseed it so I can finish downloading it?
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 4 months ago
