Finally, my first Fruvous cd!

Discussion: Finally, my first Fruvous cd!
K. D. Lurker · 18 years, 5 months ago
Yes, boys and girls, today I was overcome with a burning desire to own Bargainville, both to cruise with in my newly returned 'Stang and to jog with.  I very rarely buy cds, so it's always a pretty big deal for me when I do.  I got it new for under $10, too!  Just thought I'd share my  joy!

I got my first fruvous cd in december! Live Noise. $12.99 for 23 songs. Favorite songs: drinking song, king of spain, video bargainville...
Ilmater · 18 years, 4 months ago
For Hannukah I got every CD except C, which I already own. All have arrived except Wood (which I was looking forward to the most; I had owned Bargainville previously before losing it). I'm currently loving Lazlo's Career, Lee, You Will Go to the Moon, Boo Time, Jockey Full of Bourbon, both versions of King of Spain on Live Noise, Horseshoes, and more.

Surprisingly, I still have the same copy of Bargainville that I bought the day it was released. *strolls down memory lane* :)

Wood is the only genuine Fruvous Cd I own and I got it at a second hand Cd store inToronto for about $7 dollars or something. This means that soembody got rid of their own copy of Wood! Blasphemy!
Bender Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
did you get it at Sonic Boom? that place is my god, yo.
Kate Leahy · 18 years, 1 month ago
For those so disposed, You Will Go to the Moon, The B Album, Wood, and Live Noise are available on iTunes. I assume it's those and not the others because those were the albums distributed by Bottom Line.

All Früvous albums on iTunes are $9.99 -- can't beat that.

For those who enjoy having something to hold and look at when they buy music (like I do), check ebay for Fruvous CDs. They appear in varying frequency but there's usually a few listed. And they can often be obtained for around $10.

Also Amazon has some listed: Bville, Live Noise, b and YWGTTM (even shown with the "special edition" A New Frontier cover ;) ), are in stock and are between US$10-13.

iTunes is good for the immediate listening factor, but $9.99 isn't a great value when you could also have an actual CD and liner notes too.

Yeah...I don't have any actual, tangible, honest-to-goodness Früvous cds. They are either burned or from iTunes, due to the fact that:
A- No stores I know of carry them
B- My limited funds (and my supply of iTunes credit from aunts and uncles) make iTunes the best option, because I don't have a credit card.
C- My parents can hardly say the name of "Those Canadians," and they're the ones with the internet buying power. ;)
However...I have all except Thornhill and C, and since they aren't available on iTunes, I may try to convince mes parents to get me those, and I will finally have the actual CD. For being such a perfect daughter. ;)

Borders carries them regularly
caroline: tired. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
Really? I've been there a couple times. Never seen 'em. Of course, you're in Canada, so I'm gonna assume you're talking about Canadian Borders stores, although I could be wrong. But that would explain it, the CDs being considered a regional item. I'll check again next time, however. and bring my cash. :)
Talcott Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
I've seen them in Borders in Ohio and Maine too.
Although they tend to be overpriced ($17+/CD)

It's all about the used CD stores.

If you can't find them anywhere else, Best Buy has a suprisingly good music selection. I've seen older Eddie From Ohio sitting there (along with früvous of course)

caroline: tired. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
I don't know of any used cd stores around here, although there probably are some somewhere. However, Best Buy might be good. I think I have a gift card laying around from my dad's company picnic last summer. I won the scavenger hunt, with this guy missing an arm, another guy, and my two ten year old brothers, (they're twins) because living things are 1 point each, and I found a tortilla chip with like 100 ants on it. There's my little story for today... :)

You have TWIN 10 year old brothers? OMG, you're Kim Possible!

(I watch too much ToonDisney due to my 6 year old daughter)
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
ummm, are their names Jim and Tim? I watch it too much with my six year old son.
caroline: tired. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
"You have TWIN 10 year old brothers? OMG, you're Kim Possible!"

Ha. That's the response I usually get. Yes, I do. No, their names aren't Jim and Tim. They're Ben and Jeff. They don't rhyme. They're also not identical, so they aren't as fun.
Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
poor thing, you got the boring twin brothers *sighs* *shakeshead* ;)
caroline: tired. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
mm-hhm. *sigh* story of my life. It would've been so much cooler if i could, like, switch them around and stuff. ;)

I was in Barnes & Noble today, and Moxy Früvous actually had their own little card-divider thing. All they had was one copy of Bargainville, but I'm thinking of buying it, for a few reasons:
Reason One: Even though I have most of the songs from the cd, I don't have all of them.
Reason Two: Barnes & Noble gift card burning a hole in my wallet.
Reason Three: Call me what you want, but I like having actual cds, and right now I don't have any actual Früvous cds. I mean, who's gonna pass on their mp3 collection? I suppose you could, but there's not as much, say, nostalgia involved.
Reason Four: See above reasons.
So, any thoughts? I'm still pondering.
derek harrison Back · 18 years, 1 month ago

do it. owning the actual cd and case and stuff is eight thousand times better then having just mp3s. plus there's no song on bargainville that is okay not to have. so you must get the cd. i like the jacket art and stuff and pictures they're cool. plus it's sending a message to the seller saying "hey! moxy fruvous!" what about moxy fruvous? i don't know. that depends on the seller.
anyways, buy it!

caroline: tired. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
ok, i will. i was leaning that direction, just wanted some feedback i suppose. Plus, now i'm curious, after seeing the cool pic on the back, to see the liner and stuff. and i like the cover.. :)
A.J. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
Buy it, of course, and see the listing I did of all the lovely cheap copies of fruvous discs you can get at half dot com. There is no reason that anyone shouldn't have all the discs!!! :)

I'm in love with your thumbnail. :)

hkath Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
Isn't it great? Someone who works in a photo finishing place posted 2 pics of a flying cat on lj's foundphotos community. Apparently they were unclaimed. The cat looks like he loves it. Look at that form!
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 1 month ago

One of my cats likes to sleep on top of the very tall laundry sorter thingie (it's like 6feet at least) and so at random times in the night when she decides it's time to come down you have a similar catdive onto the bed (and, by extension, your sleeping torso) in the middle of the night. :)

A.J. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
No, that would be a bad assumption. I am not even sure that there ARE Borders in Canada. They have their own MegaBookStores. But in any case, with the exception of Bargainville, Fruvous material is generally easier to find in the US than in Canada. wood caused their popularity in Canada to tank, and after that they pretty much became bigger here than there. By the end they were hardly touring Canada at all, and the US CD release dates were BEFORE the Canadian ones.
hkath Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
There are none. Although I was in line behind a woman at Indigo the other day who was arguing vehemently with the salesperson that Indigo/Chapters was owned by Borders. Fecking moron.
Bender Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
Wasn't Chapters originally owned by Borders before Indigo bought the chain and they amalgamated?

Or am I making that up?
hkath Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
I believe you are. Chapters was its own company before it was boughten.
Bender Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
I have no idea where I got that idea.  Similarity in the logos, perhaps?
Bender Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
I'm talking about the Borders in South Jersey. Canada doesn't have 'em.
A.J. Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
All Früvous albums on iTunes are $9.99 -- can't beat that.

Except that you are getting MP3s which are compressed, and you should be able to find most fruvous albums for that or a little more on the internet if you keep your eyes open.
nate... Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
No, you're getting AAC files.... which are also compressed... but slightly better.

:)
