Defining You

   Discussion: Defining You
caroline: tired. · 16 years, 6 months ago
Reading the "Who Am I?" thread got me to thinking: how do you define yourself? Instead of having to explain, is there a song/songs that you feel help define who you are? In addition: -If you don't feel the entire song conveys who you are, is there a particular line/verse that does? -How about a song/line/verse that describes a certain portion of your life? (for me...one of these would have to be "1000 Sarahs by EFO...because it *perfectly* describes this real jerk of a girl i know, aptly named Sarah. And...I can't begin to explain how perfect to a T that song is in describing this girl, and how i felt.) have fun.

Iron Clad Lou by Hum (swear words, ahoy!)
What Matters by Matthew Sweet (but really, that whole album is insanely biographical, especially Split Personality, Beware My Love, and Thunderstorm.)

and

Presto by Rush

So in short, I have a big ego, and a lot of regrets.

I used the Talking Head song as a title for my blog
Talcott · 16 years, 6 months ago
...is they talk to much. You might take a fall down the stairs, and a Talcott will come along and say "ain't that just like life". I think the trouble with Talcotts is that they see poetry everywhere.

It's also great to be a nerd.

And sometimes I wish I was Tiger Woods

You look at me like I know whatís going on
Iím looking back and I wonder what went wrong
I really thought by now a few things might just clarify
I got a mind that goes out to lunch for days
And a body that sometimes disobeys
I get into the parties but I hate them 'cause I'm shy
Oh my
Iím still at an awkward age

At least i used to think all songs were about me, particularly the ones about the gorgeous girlfiendswho was too good for her loser boyfriend. Certain ongs speak to em at certainmomnets. I found a song called Disappointment by McAlmont and Butler summed up the relationship I had in my head for five years. It's a song bout believing the songs are about you, and that soemone loves you when they don't. I also really related to Drowned Girl for a while and Dissolved Girl by Massive Attack. At the moment though there is no theme song. I think some songs just represent who you are in a moment but that moment is just that, a moment.

i have to agree, the songs i used to say defined me are definately different.

i used to be really into James' "Sit Down:"

†"those who feel the breath of sadness, sit down next to me. those who find they're touched by madness, sit down next to me...those who find themselves rediculous, sit down next to me, in love, in fear, in hate, in tears.."

i suppose if any that could still be a theme of sorts.

That's FRUiT - Island.

So very me.

hkath Back · 16 years, 6 months ago
Yay! Oh, I wish I could hear them again for the first time :) Of course, the CDs are quite lacking compared to their live show.

Owing to my having watched far too much of my daughter's favorite television show, I feel the need to add "yummy, yummy". Yes, my brain has turned to pudding.

"Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" - Stars.

"When there is nothing left to burn
You have to set yourself on fire
God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said "yes I think we've met before"
In that instant it started to pour

Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across Pont Champlain
And all of that time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name

This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin
You tried to reach deep but you couldn't get in
And now you're outside me you see all the beauty
Repent all your sin

It's nothing but time and a face that you'll lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn't choose
I'll write you a postcard, I'll send you the news
From the house down the road, from real love

Live through this and you won't look back
Live through this and you won't look back
Live through this and you won't look back

There's one thing I have to say so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted, I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save"

(because I'm sure there are people who dont know the song)
