Wow 18 votes before the first post, is that a record?

I of course voted for radio, who else did?

I thought more people would list ipods or their computer. There were times that I think the correct answer for me would have been live. That is still the best.

Probably a tie between computer and iPod for me. Although I still listen to tapes and vinyl occasionally, getting funny looks from other people my age. "ca... sette....?"

In the past year, I haven't gone an entire day without music. (including making my own) It's the first thing I do when I get up, first thing I do when I get home from school, last thing I turn off before bed.

at home.... and at work.... I just use itunes on the computer.

I listen to either cds or the radio in the car... but.... now that I have a 3 minute commute to work, that doesn't account for much time.

Ewwwww.... RADIO <shudders>

I haven't listened to the radio in years. It's only getting worse. I've gone so far as to remove the antenna on my car, just in case a passenger decides to risk their life touching the AM/FM button. It also helps my FM Transmitter, not that it actually needed it.

So, yeah, I hate the radio with a passion. Sure, there's stuff out there I would enjoy, but I'm not interested in waiting for any of it to get played. I spend 2-2.5 hours in the car round-trip for my commute to work, and the car happens to be more or less the only place I listen to music, so you better believe I'm gonna be in charge of what comes out of the speakers.

I've got a 60gb iPod, and a sick FM transmitter, but I've only managed to fill half of the 60 gigs. I could fill5 of these things without a problem, but I try to keep it strictly to stuff that I'm liable to actually LISTEN to. Since I avoid getting in other people's cars as much as possible (I only trust my own driving), I try to keep some stuff on there that other people might enjoy, since I don't want to be a prick with the music. Not ALL the time, anyway. Sometimes I ENJOY it. (piece of advice: never complain about the music if you are sitting in the back seat :)

If you don't like Frank Zappa, maybe you should walk. :P

IIRC, the last time I actually listened to the radio to any real extent was when Boston'sEagle 93.7 was still on the air. That was some good shit, son.

I guess I listen to more music on CD
While I have some mp3s, I don't have one of them newfangled mp3 players, so that limits my listening time to when I'm online and don't have an album I want to listen to.
I tend to listen to the radio more than I do CDs, but the NPR station up here leans more towards the classicalmusic side of things, so I don't listen to quite as much music. Lots of news though. Does news count as music?
When I was in Columbus WCBE would have pushed radio over the edge music-wise.

I was slow getting into it but I'm about half way into ripping my CD collection and I've already got 40 GB... My laptop loves my external harddrive.
nate... Back · 18 years, 7 months ago
40 gigs?! O.o

you either have over 1000 albums ripped, or you're ripping them at a VERY high bitrate. :)

ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 18 years, 7 months ago
I have about 18GB of ripped CDs, but about 41.8GB of music files cause of concert boots.
nate... Back · 18 years, 7 months ago
ahh.. yeah, I long ago stopped storing my boots on my hd.... just because, well, I need to have some kind of HD space. :D

K-Lyn Back · 18 years, 7 months ago

Somewhere in between..about 500 CDs and a slightly higher than average bit rate since I gots ta have sound quality!

I unloaded a whole bookshelf since I can now store the CDs in boxes in the closet. So cool. Of course the DVDs are taking over that shelf now.

gotcha.

I rip at 192... cuz beyond that, I honestly don't think one can tell the difference in an mp3..... though you can always tell the diff between mp3 and the CD.

Josh Woodward Back · 18 years, 7 months ago
I dunno, it depends on the song for me. On a recording with really crisp cymbal sounds, I still hear the artifacts of MP3ness on 192.

Though I never do CBR MP3s, because they're a waste of space. VBR with a max of 224 is what I do most stuff at. I can't usually tell a big difference between CD and VBR/224.

there's also always the option of ripping in a lossless format for some songs/albums if you know mp3 will diminish it too much.

I've considered going back and reripping some of my cds in Apple's lossless format for my iPod. I've got the space, and the only issue I'll have to deal with then is the inability of the iPod to cache the whole file, which, considering how my iPod is usually sitting in one spot, probably won't be much of an issue.
