so, um, frucon 9?

poll Will you come to Frucon 9 (February 17-19, 2006, presumably)?
I definitely will be there.
I probably will be there.
I'm not sure, but I'm leaning slightly towards being there.
I have absolutely no idea yet whether or not I'll be there.

looks like this is around the time of year someone always asks about Frucon, so I figure I will. I remember the idea we had last year, because there were so few of us and we all fit in the suite, to just not bother with the conference room and rent the 2-story suite for two nights, so we have it Friday evening and all day and night Saturday. but that requires knowing how many people are planning to come, doesn't it?

Has anyone heard of any plans of Mike, Dave. or Jian making plans for a show that weekend? Assuming the con is Feb 18th, Murray will be on tour with GBS, unless its just sean, bob, and alan on tour.

If I can afford it, I plan to go to Toronto in February, if only to visit Kath, and I would EXPECT AJ to join me *hint*

If only to visit Kath? What are the rest of us Torontonians? Chopped Liver?=p

I'd say you are more like pate de foie gras, a delicacy.
Talcott · 19 years, 3 months ago
I'm there.
It'll depend on the whole money situation (that and if I'm going to take a vacation, I haven't been home in a year and a half), but I really want (or need) to go. Alas, Maine is on no one's way to Toronto ;-)
Phoenix · 19 years, 3 months ago
I mean I would totally suck not to go since I'm now on teh same continent and the distance to Toronto has deflated like an old balloon.

Oh while unpacking my stuff here I found Canadian money. Hee.

And I have to stalk Leah and others, too ;D

I've never had the opportunity to go to FruCon. It's always the same weekend as my husband's b-day. What's it like? What do you do? Can I learn the secret handshake?
Bender · 19 years, 3 months ago
I'm not going.

If you're in Toronto and want to see me, I'm not hard to find.
Sab Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I'll be there if nothing else comes up between now and then. I mean I'm in T.O and I can see the hotel from my school so I don't really see the point of not going if I'm free.
Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
See, I just don't see the point of going unless it seems compelling.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I just don't see the point of going since there stopped being shows associated with it. :)

I just don't see the point of BREATHING omgomgomg.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
umm... then, perhaps you should see a professional about that?

Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I need to go to a breathing technician.

Phoenix Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Breathing is totally cliche anyway :D

Cause, like, I know the rest of us aren't even worth bothering with. You absolutely hate seeing me, for example. :P
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
well, I see the rest of y'all at frff. :)

no reason to go to toronto for THAT.

Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
At least not in the winter.

However, there are so many awesome things in the summer.

We have the second-biggest pride celebration in north america (second only to San Francisco). It's absolutely fantastic. It's a huge week-long party. Church street is closed off from just about Yonge to College. Amazing.

Toronto International Film Festival -- biggest publically-attended film festival in North America. Hot Docs -- biggest documentary festival in same. Caribana -- amazing Caribbean festival.

There are always some kind of street fair going on. There's always something moving, shaking, and exciting. The city is green and alive. Personally, I love going down to the Christie Pits to read and watch the kids playing in the splash pad.

Toronto sort of sucks in the winter. I know February FruCon is tradition, but it originally was scheduled for that time because of a concert. There's absolutely no reason for it to be in February anymore. At this point, it's kind of a retarded tradition.
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
eh.. I'm a winter person, so I don't really care so much if it's in feb.

Toronto has a lot of good pubs..... and is a fun city to just wander in. (or ask a cabbie where to go in)

Bender Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
it's just that there's more to see when you wander in the warmer months ;P
renita Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
but in the summer a lot of the same people go to frff, so it's a matter of spacing the visits over the year, one in summer--one in winter. this also often makes it easier to arrange time off work, I know that when I was working full-time, it was better to take a few days off in february and some time in july than to take some time in june and then again in july.

What better time to be in toronto than winter?!

Josh Woodward Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
There is no better time. Aside from spring, summer, and fall.
Talcott Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Spring and summer aren't better times for anything ;-)

I've already got other reasons (ok, reason :)) to go to Toronto from time to time, I'm just wondering if I should make plans for this to be another such reason, and if so, to confirm the date.

Dates will be the weekend of February 17th. There are no plans for a meeting room this year. I think if we just rent a suite that will be fine. It would have been last year, actually. A reservation has not been made, but I'm not concerned. If for some reason the Comfort Suites can't accomodate us, there are plenty of hotels in TO where we can get a suite.

Maybe we ought to change the name Frucon to Fruparty? :)
danced with Lazlo Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
Not gonna work. Lack of money and a house concert.

So come to NY.
Yvonne Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
Seeing as "Fruparty 9" is scheduled to take place in about a week...do we know a) if it's still happening, and b) which hotel we'll be at? Pauley and I were planning to reserve a room for ourselves for the weekend and should probably be looking into that about now or sooner.

I wanna meet you people! I've always regretted not getting into Fruvous when they were still touring and all the exciting stuff was going on.
Yvonne Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
Pauley and I now have a room reserved for ourselves at the Comfort Suites at Dundas and Jarvis. Let me know if there is any location change. :)
Yvonne Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
(Yes we know there would be a two-story suite where we could sleep on, like, the floor or in the whirlpool bathtub or maybe if we were lucky even a sofa bed, but we're also celebrating Valentine's Day belatedly, and, y'know...also, if for some horrible reason Fruparty does not happen, we'll still be staying in Toronto for the weekend anyway.)
