ok, we're in cubes, but there are only 40 employees, and a good number of them have offices. I just wish our cube walls were a bit higher so people couldn't sneak up on my while I'm playing on FHDC. :)

I also live in a cubefarm at work but we're so small - maybe 60 employees - many of which are in the call center - my department only has 7 people in it, and there are 8 cubes in the row, and one guy has his own office (the CTO, my boss).

they're *really* nice cubes though. and i have one of those ginormous widescreen monitors - i think it's like 25" or something - it rocks.

It took me about a month to get an office, 5 weeks to get a phone number, and 8 weeks to get business cards.  I was a wandering nomad for awhile, making it hard to do business and outreach for my program.  The office is pretty decent though, given that the building was built in the 1930s and my office was originally an SRO room where the people who worked at the settlement house where I work used to sleep, back in the days.  It has a window.  Some of the offices are converted bathrooms with no windows and little ventilation...so I consider myself very lucky to have this office.  Though, I still need to decorate.

I had an internship at an insurance company while I was in high school and was in a cubicle. I got an e-mail address right away and it was about a week before I got a phone number and it wasn't until I was moved to another cubicle that it was actually adjusted for my height. Then about 5 months before my internship was over I got a new computer (We were switching from Macs to Windows computers). Now I'm on a Mac at home and hate using Windows computers where I work now. Retailer checking in, but I worry about the implications here.  Standing?  As opposed to moving, right?  Where can I sign up for that?  Is the pay better?
bored, bored, bored.... Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
Also Retail. And also precious little standing ...
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
Heheh I just put that because the one time I worked retail what I remembered most is we were forbidden to sit unless on break. Always had to be standing even if not actively moving to do something. So I remember the standing much more. :)

Ditto, although lots of running, at least on weekends.

oooooooh the liddle kiddies, they're so sweet and cute and funny and they have these teensy-weensy little violins that make the nastiest sound but they're still totally cute anyway! :)

(oh and i get paid 10 an hour, which is more than twice the minimum wage, hehehehehe) :D

You forgot the poor people like me who work in medicine!  What about us? Its okay I have done most of the jobs posted, but I guess I can fall under the manual labor spot.  :)

Yes, I go from room to room, doing patient visits. I sort of have an office, but not really my own. I do charting in the lab.

I have my own office, but it's not like that makes data entry any more interesting.  All I can say is, "Thank God for caffeine."
Mamalissa! Back · 21 years, 4 months ago

Data Entry!

All I can say is, "Thank God for the sound card and speakers!"

I'm in a real corner office with windows and everything, but there are 2 other people - and no cubicle walls.  What does that count as?

Melinda J. Beasi · 21 years, 4 months ago
My office is too small to be any of these things. We work in one big converted-warehouse-y room (there is one enclosed office for the executive director). I'm out in the open... the other two women have sort-of cubicles (because they spend a lot of time on the phone), but it could hardly be called a jungle. There are only four people in the whole place. I think probably a lot of small businesses don't really fit these categories.
jaye Back · 21 years, 4 months ago
yup, same here. we have two people in sort-of-offices and the other four of us (well, three of them and one of me, since i don't actually work -for- them) are sort out out in the open, sort of around corners.

me, i'm totally out in the open. at a desk. standing, mostly. because archiving tends to consist of 10% actual foldering and labelling and 90% moving boxes back and forth ;)

Yeah, thanks so much for remembering me in your poll, Honey... *NOT*!

I have a part-time job as an all-around theater lackey.  Does that count?  :)

What about us Navy types? Live and work on a ship floating in the seven seas.

I work in a print shop. We are in a large room with lots of equipment. We aren't exactly retailers, if you define retail as selling premade products purchased from wholesalers, I guess we are a value-added reseller. Except for the supplies we sell. And the graphic design side. Overall a good mix of standing and sitting, computer work and manual labour, creative and repetitive. If the money were better this would be close to "my ideal job". Well, high up anyway.
Rawzer · 21 years, 4 months ago
Woo, I'm still in high school, and I get money any way I can. Arg.
