FRFF surveys

   Discussion: FRFF surveys
A girl named Becca · 21 years ago
Somehow I didn't get a survey at the festival. Does anyone know if there's another way I can fill one out? I didn't see anything about it on their website...
nate... Back · 21 years ago
I actually just emailed Anne to ask the same thing.

Last year she sent me an electronic copy, which I filled out and faxed in to her.
I'll let you know what I hear back from them.
A girl named Becca Back · 21 years ago
Thanks.
:)
nate... Back · 21 years ago
There's an online version now at the site. :)
here
John J. Ryan Back · 21 years ago

I may have to do that, the electronic thingy.

People who should come back: EFO, DVN, Kennedys, Arlo, Greg Brown, Tracy Grammer

People who should be there: C & M Thompson, Mike Errico, GBS, TMBG, Church Of Betty, Nicklecreek

lawrence · 21 years ago
I'm interested to know which bands people listed in each half (not so much the new artist ones, but the 6 to return and 6 who weren't there but should have been).

mine were:
come back next year:
Dar Williams, EFO, Nields, DVN, Kennedys, Tracy Grammer

didn't play this year, but should play next year:
Moxy Fruvous (yeah, I know it's probably a useless campaign at this point), Jim's Big Ego, Paperboys, Beth Amsel, Kris Delmhorst, Great Big Sea
goovie is married! Back · 21 years ago
come back next year: dvn, wa9, tracy grammer, the kennedys, richard shindell, richard thompson
should play next year: andrew bird, rod picott, david morreale, chris and meredith thompson, the mammals, john prine
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 21 years ago

Oh Drat! I knew I forgot the Mammals.

Come Back: DVN, EFO, Dar Williams, Patty Larkin, Richard Shindell, Tracy Grammer

Should Play Next Year: Susan Werner, Kris Delmhorst, Erin Mckeown, Russell Wolff, Mark Erelli (I think)... I'm drawing apartial blank here.

A girl named Becca Back · 21 years ago

Well, obviously I haven't actually submitted a list yet, as I didn't get a survey, but mine would probably be something along these lines:

Should come back: WA9, WA9, WA9, WA9, WA9, WA9
Just kidding. Probably WA9, DVN, Vance,Christopher Williams, Dar, and Arlo
(I feel like I'm forgetting someone important. Someone please remind me before I get a survey to fill out.) :)

Should play next year: Chris & Meredith, Erin, Paperboys, and, uh, 3 others yet to be determined.

[ETA: I guess I should add Russell to the should play next year list, even though it's not particularly likely...]

nate... · 21 years ago
So far:

MUST return:
WA9, Vance, EFO, DVN, Shindell and Christopher Williams

Also, comments:

"Vendors should be allowed to sell french fries!"

"Please bring back the old ice providers. Ice service was awful this year."

John J. Ryan Back · 21 years ago

My comments: More security and the ability to kick drunken louts out of the festival.

A "Best Campsite" award.

Keep the festival at 4 days!!!

lawrence Back · 21 years ago
Keep the festival at 4 days!!!

too long. I really hope there are more suggestions to reduce it back to 3.
goovie is married! Back · 21 years ago
word. four days was too many.
nate... Back · 21 years ago
See, I got REALLY burnt out when it was only 3 days, cuz it was far too packed together.

With 4 days, I was much more relaxed and had more fun.
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years ago
Ditto here. It felt more like a vacation and less like just a different kind of work. :)
lawrence Back · 21 years ago
I felt completely the opposite. Saturday and Sunday were just as packed as they always are, only this time, I was ready to go home by Saturday night, and had barely enough energy Sunday to sit and listen, let alone actually do anything.
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years ago

I wonder if it's a downstairs/upstairs split. Like, we downstairs folks actually slept. So we didn't run out of steam as the weekend went on. :)

goovie is married! Back · 21 years ago
to me, it wasn't exhaustion (i'm not the best judge of that, anyway, since i wasn't well), but a case of not having enough to do. it seemed like they were reeeaaallllly stretching to get four days out of it. but that's just my opinion.
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years ago

I can see that. I personally enjoyed having nothing to do because it meant I didn't have to rush anywhere and I could just sit around and chat with people. That's what made it a vacation to me. :)

But then again I did a bit TOO Much sitting around and chatting with people this year. I loved every minute of it but I got mocked for not seeing enough music. Heee. :)

nate... Back · 21 years ago
*nods*
exactly.
:)
My stress that I've felt every year about FRFF was completely absent this year.
It was the first year it has ever felt relaxed... like a... (imagine this) vacation. heh

Got to see some good music, but got to spend a lot (probably the majority) of time just hangin out with cool people.
Andrea Krause Back · 21 years ago

Downstairs was just so frickin' laid back this year. I loved it! :)

I seriously had my best FRFF ever this year and I didn't even see much music. :)

zil Back · 21 years ago
next year it will be mine. oh yes, it will be mine. :-)
John J. Ryan Back · 21 years ago
For me, really stretching it meant more dancing. I did two dance workshops this year, and I'd like to tackle more this year. I'm going to see if people who enjoy Contra dancing like Gordon and Chris Chin would want to try doing it here in NYC sometime.
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 21 years ago

Oh..I'll definitely go! For those interested, the first dance of the season for CDNY (Country Dance New York)happens to be on Saturday, Sept. 6th from 7:45-10:45PM with a beginner's workshop at 7:15. There are dances most every Saturday as well through May. Check out CDNY for more info.

I agree...the extra day meant more dancing for me as well. I was able to break out of my contra dancing mold and try such things as two-step and swing. Thanks to the lovely Anita for being my dance partner for both of those workshops and putting up with my two left feet and miscounts. :).

nate... Back · 21 years ago
See, I agree, but I *liked* that.
Every year it's always been "rush rush rush.. gotta get here.. gotta get there." This year, I had time to just sit around and shoot the shit with people.
Just sit at camp and talk.
It was great.
:)
nate... Back · 21 years ago
oh crap!!!
I forgot to do that.
I'll have to open my envelope back up to put the request on to keep it at 4 days.

SO much better... more spread out and not as stressy.

Josh Woodward Back · 21 years ago
What do you mean, they weren't allowed to sell french fries? Why?

And yeah, ice service blew.
nate... Back · 21 years ago
You know the guys in the silvery trailer thing? They had, like, poppers, onion rings.. etc...
Well, I asked for an order of fries, and they told me, "Sorry, we're not allowed to sell fries since they sell those in the big white tent."
(the cafeteria tent.)

So yeah, this meant you couldn't get fries after whatever stupid-early time that tent closed. :P
AND it meant you could only get crappy fries.
John J. Ryan Back · 21 years ago

The mess hall tent you mean. I didn't even bother to get fries there. I was more thirsty than hungry during the festival, so fortunately I had my huge stash of Gatorade for that purpose. Could you imagine if they took the next step and banned all outside food and drink?

I hope FRFF isn't heading in the direction of becoming less and less user friendly.

Shelly Back · 21 years ago
dood.

those fries were good!!!!

the frydood kept stopping by the backstage gate and giving us a few when he was on his way to the performer's hospitality area.

though i only took a total of, like 4 during the whole fest. still. nummy nonetheless. ;P
Misch Back · 21 years ago
It's actually pretty common for smaller festivals to not allow overlapping of food produts. No competition = higher prices.
John J. Ryan Back · 21 years ago
Fortunately FRFF food prices are not as high as they could be.
nate... Back · 21 years ago
They're still pretty damned high, though.
Josh Woodward Back · 21 years ago
The pizza was very fairly priced - $2.50 for a piece as big as your head. And it was nummy. Most of the other things were $5 and up, but it was for food that was much better than fast food fare.
zil Back · 21 years ago
not a whole lot of reasonable prices on food I could eat though... but I'm a freak.
