   Discussion: St Louis Blues

I was listening to Jim Kweskin on Mountain Stage. Before his band did the song "St Louis Blues," he said that most people probably hadn't heard it before. I found that hard to believe of a musical audience. Have you heard "St Louis Blues"?

[edited by goovie, because unlike gordon, i know how to write in english :) ]

what about "huh?" as an option..

Is it, like, a specific kind of blues?
Or...?

it's a song. i always thought it was a pretty famous one, too. i'm pretty sure you'd recognize it if you heard it.

and yes, not only have i heard it, but i've played it, approximately 500 times. yay jazz band.

Ohhh... it's a song.

Well, then, still "huh" cuz I have no idea if I've heard it.

Way to be vague gordon. ;)

Heh.

And, just downloaded it... doesn't sound familiar to me.

So no, I haven't (err.. hadn't) heard it. :)

Nice, though.

I love Cab Calloway. Not one of my students has heard of him. I'm not surprised.

I thought this was going to be a forum about NHL hockey. Oh well.

no, but i think the hockey team is named after the song.

Heard of it, played it. Often. In fact, inour band, it's one of our crowd-pleasers. During St. Louis Blues, each one of the trumpet players takes a chorus (12 bars)and walks out into the audience. They usually try to go to 4 different spots in the venue, then they all play together for 12 bars. It's fun to watch the audience look around and realize that they're surrounded by trumpet players. *g* The guitarist takes a chorus or two afterwards to give 'em all time to get back to the bandstand, and in a large hall I enjoy watching them all run like maniacs to get back on stage in time. At various times, they've stood on tables, railings and speakers and even gone up into the balcony to do their thing.

I'm a Buffalo Sabres fan myself.

OK rather than make a new forum I'll just ask it here. How many of you know "Swanee River?" I'll point out that it is a song this time.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
The first thing I always think of is the Honeymooners.

Who wrote Swannee River?

Homminna Homminna Homminna Ed Norton?
