What's with The Lord??

   Discussion: What's with The Lord??

No, this is not a religious posting...

No, I'm not referring tot he cat in the Hitchhiker's Guide series...

I went to see BNL last night and the Lord was playing percussion. Not sure why. He was never explained. He was not one of theladies dressed up. He was just there. I must just not 'get it'.

Otherwise it was a lovely show with the obvious problem that they played EVERY SONG on their new album, which I have not bonded with more than three songs off of (my boyfriend commented during You Can Get It Right Next Time that perhapsthe lyrics referred to their next album). And they were taping some show called "You Rock" or something for VH1 and people had been auditioning all dayand one guy got to sing One Week with them at the end.

So, has anyone else seen this tour? A friend saw them in Houston and he was there but with no explaination. Anyone know?

yes indeed, caught BNL in columbus, OH. i can shed some light on your question: i believe the man in the jesus getup is Tiny (a nickname--no clue what his real name is). heperforms some sort of offstage duty for the band (road manager? i forget. something like that) and has featured prominently in their last few tours. for the stunt tour, they dangled him from the ceiling during the first song, then at some point quietly swapped him for a dummy, which then plummeted to the ground behind the speakers onstage to the gasps of the crowd. Tiny then walked out, waving to show he wasn't hurt. pretty funny. i think he wore a chef's hat and apron for the Maroon tour. anyway. i thought his current costume hilarious, especially when he wandered through the crowd collecting questions for the band during the Q&A.

so, this tour is supposed to be "intimate and interactive," meaning that they're playing smaller venues and allowing fans an opportunity to ask questions mid-set. they said up front they'd be playing all the songs from the new album (which is growing on me, but not as swiftly as their others have), and that throughout the course of the tour they'd play every song they'd ever recorded. there's a website that's tracking the progress here: http://home.comcast.net/~rfc2000/misc/peeptracker.htm

i was pretty pleased with the rarities we got, and i *loved* the acoustic set ("one week" with a banjo!). they're mounting a larger tour next year that will be more like the stadium/amphitheater tours they've done in the past (ie. splashy stage setup, "$1m" back in the setlist, medley o'pop songs at end, etc), or so i hear on mysteadfast BNL list (the Treefort, at Topica.com).

and, allow me to say.. I'd love to see this peepshow tour, the whole intimate venue idea sounds great!

it'd be nice if this canadian band decided to play some canadian dates so I could actually go.
