C'mon fes up, it's O.K. to come out of the dice bag.
Snow In Summer Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
i have a dice bag.... *but* i just like dice. they amuse me. my boyfriend is the serious gamer fanboy. name the game & he has played it at some point
meh Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
*does the happy dicebag dance*

I actually have kept subsets of dice that were only to be used for specific characters.

I need more dice. I need to count my dice. I think I'll do that right now. :-)

8d4, 34d6, 4d8, 104d10, 11d12, 12d20. Unless I missed a stash of them somewhere.

I blame the d6 on boredly scavanging old board games. I have no excuse for the mob of d10 other than that they're cool. Uhm, yeah. No one wanted to hear about my dice. I'll be over here now...
Nik Chaikin Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
if you have extra dice feel free to send them to me.
Talcott · 20 years, 8 months ago
Although I tend to do more White Wolf than actual D&D

Of course, it's been years since I've had much of a chance to game.
meh Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
*is working on actually comitting character to sheet*

Soon. 'Twill come together soon. Or I'll just finish the background work for one of the game concepts swimming in my head.

Uhm, yeah. Need gameing goodness soon.
George E. Nowik · 20 years, 8 months ago

i'll say yes because of my history with it. between 1988 and 1996, if it existed, i played it. liek, totally. everything. rolemaster. paranoia. star wars. teenage mutant ninja turtles. ad&d.basic D&D. dragonlance. all of 'em.

i almost miss those days, too. (:

I bought D&D when it was fairly new. We only played it a couple of times though and I was the dungeon master. The best part was designing the dungeon and the riddle I incorporated in it. That was the first time I used Horvendile as a Pseudonym.

Currently playing as a half-elf bard. Tis phun!

Jºnªthªn · 20 years, 8 months ago
Shouldn't that be, "Are you an AD&D geek?"

Or is that REALLY showing geekiness?
Talcott Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Depends. Someone could be a purist and love D&D, but not AD&D. Plus, isn't the WotC 3rd edition simply called Dungeons and Dragons? (I might be wrong on that one).
Jºnªthªn Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Geekcheck!
nate... · 20 years, 8 months ago
kinda redundant?

Doesn't D&D player = geek?

Or, no, nevermind... guess it = nerd.
Mark · 20 years, 8 months ago

I use to play back in 7th grade... every day. It was crazy... granted, that was 1986(?) I still have all my stuff from back then... I'm sure one of these days it'll get used again :)

A.J. · 20 years, 8 months ago
I WAS, until I got to college and the D and D group there met on FRIDAY night. I wanted my friday nights for going out and drinking and poker and lots of other more mainstream stuff. I think I was sick of being a geek. So that was the end of it. That was 20 years ago. God!
goovie is married! · 20 years, 8 months ago
there's some rpg'ing in my past, d&d and otherwise, and i'll freely admit it. i'm less free about admitting to once dating a guy whose life still revolved around d&d at age 20. :)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
But he was a D&D character in real life, The Smeg King. If I play again I'll put him in my dungeon. When you meet him if you get the wrong roll you are trapped in his lair playing D&D for the next week.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
ahahahahahaha.
and then he reads you his poetry!
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
It is like Vogon poetry?

{Afraid to ask if she says the same thing about my poetry}
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
your hair, it has a copper sheen
my naughty bits are pure and clean
i think i'll eat a nectarine
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
That is total bad Carey poetry.
Yvonne Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Dude, that's some bad poetry. I like.
Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Sounds like an old Flaming Lips song...
It's a girl! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
just as i'm less free about admitting to dating his equally obsessed geek best friend!
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
well, at least he didn't write poetry. :)
It's a girl! Back · 20 years, 7 months ago

thank heaven for small favors!

and I really shouldn't talk-- because I actually married an rpg geek! although he proudly says he hasn't played D&D since high school. Mind you, as recently as a year ago he was doing LARP runs.....

geeks just seem to be my destiny

J. Andrew World Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Hey! I am not a geek. I am just fashionably challenged! I have dabbled, but that's because it's kinda like acting!

::makes a saving roll::

Nope. I'm not.
renita · 20 years, 8 months ago
I'll answer this as yes, not because I still do, but because I did. a lot.

from the ages of 13/14 to 19 I played a lot of rpgs.

I had friends that got bored with what was out there and designed their own systems.

it was fun. Sometimes I miss it.
George E. Nowik Back · 20 years, 8 months ago

exactly. sometimes i really do miss it, but more often than not, i know that there's simply no time for it left in life these days.

that same group of people were responsible for me losing entire saturdays playing Diplomacy, tho ... we had a deal with the Kirkland Public Library and the Pizza Hut right next to it that ended up letting us use the back conference room every saturday, and then we could order medium pizzas for $4 each. now -those- were the days ...

which was good, because diplomacy was a game that took an entire day to play. i wouldn't mind doing that again once or twice a year...

renita Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
yah george, that's the thing for me too.

I would get up at 6am on a saturday to catch the first bus to port moody to meet the people who were starting a game at 8am.

because my D&D friends lived that far away :(

later, I started playing with a sub-group of that group. but that was less regular, and we built it into my characters that they could come and go without screwing things up too bad.

that was when I "saw" most of my anime. I put saw in quotes, because we'd play until midnight or 1 or so and then pop in some snime, chances are I would drift off and doze through the episodes at least a little, so often I don't think I've seen a particular movie or show--but then something is familiar, or I recognise the name--but couldn't tell you for the life of me what is was about.

anyway yah. long story short, it was good but I think the time in my life where I could dedicate that much time to a non-productive activity is over.
excuse me while I go scour lj for more updates...
*joolee* Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Yay Diplomacy! That has robbed me of many nights through high school and college. It's a great game, but y'can't play it too much or you'll go nuts. Too much of the same people...*shudder*
A.J. Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
OMG a girl gamer!!!! Where were you when I was 15??? Oh, not remotely born yet. Right. :(
A.J. Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Ah yes, Diplomacy! We never seemed to finish those games, even playing all day. Same with lots of wargames from SPI. The Middle Earth Trilogy, Waterloo, Swords and Sorcery. They all took longer than we had as kids. I used to think only adults had time to play those games, but now I realize that NOBODY has the time to play those games.
George E. Nowik Back · 20 years, 7 months ago

the fact that we would start a game of diplomacy at almost the crack of nine in the morning and it would go until about 10pm was usually a testament at how much time should not be spent on a single game. :D

of course, the real fun began when you realized that you only had one piece left and were trying desperately to hang on to it ... it became rather a running joke. all i needed was to be russia so i could impose the iron curtain. dangit. (:

zil · 20 years, 8 months ago

reasons I never got into gaming

...my best friends marriage is currently being ruined by her husbands obssesion with gaming.

...I know someone who actually started to believe he WAS his character.

...the geek boys have a tendacy to drool on me.

...and last but not least [hopes she wont get hate frums] I think its kind of ...dumb. well I shouldn't say that, its not dumb, its a perfectly valid past time, its just very not for me and I feel silly when I try it.

Misch Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
*passes Zil a towel*

That'll take care of the drool.
zil Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
thanks misch! I can also use it to protect myself... towel whiping is pretty easy to manage. :-)
Nik Chaikin Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
you can also use that towel to travel the galaxy, all you need now is some sort of guid, like for hitchikers maybe.
danced with Lazlo · 20 years, 8 months ago
the cartoon show?
zil Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
DUDE! I used to religously watch it... until my dad was "born again" and then I was demon spawn for liking it.
John J. Ryan · 20 years, 8 months ago
As someone who considers himself a geek, I've never even touched D&D.
danced with Lazlo Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Ummm... no comment.
nate... Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Well, at least you have that going for you.

:)
K-Lyn · 20 years, 8 months ago
Well familiar with the concepts. Don't have the attention span for the game (other maybe it's the people I've played with). But I don't think you are automatically a geek for playing. To each their own and it's way more creative than, say, watching TV or shooting each other on the X-box...
meh · 20 years, 7 months ago
I now have a livejournal just for my gamerbabble.

I can't decide if I think that's cool or very pathetic. ;-)

Of course, it's just as likely a few non-gamer things will creep in, since I'm sure all of the rp nonsense won't stay out of my d-land. This should cut it down, though.

The LJ username is cloakedstoat, if anyone's bored enough to check it out.
Doktor Pepski, kommie · 20 years, 7 months ago
more along the lines of Vampire and werewolf, some star wars looking for the new Army of Darkness RPG that is either supposed to come out or is out already *shrugs*
