Baby songs

   Discussion: Baby songs
K-Lyn · 18 years, 3 months ago

I'm planning a baby shower and I was going to make the mother-to-be a mix of baby songs. But I don't want just baby in the title...I want the theme to be there. Example: Stay Up Late by the Talking Heads. So I come to you, the gurus of all cool music knowledge. What are your suggestions?

And yes, I'm putting the Kids' Song on there!

when you dream- the barenaked ladies
interlude (milo) - modest mouse
goodbye grace - spirit of the west
(grace is the hospital his newborn son was born in and spent many months fighting for his life in, not so obvious like the others, so maybe it's not right)

The Things We've Handed Down - Marc Cohn. Greatest song ever for expecting parents.

Get in Bed - Teddy Goldstein. More humorous view of parenting small children.

I always thought "You Remind Me" was a love song.

I think it would fall into that category. Just not specifically the common extremely co-dependent song for your lover.

St Jude's Comet - Paul Simon #
I Will Not Take These Things For Granted - Toad the Wet Spocket
Baby Mine - Bette Midler *or* Dumbo soundtrack
Original of the Species - U2 (I LOVE this song)
Beatiful Boy - John Lennon #

#this is of course assuming your friend is having a boy...preferably named Sean in the case of the last song

These are great suggestions (have to look up a few).

Have you noticed that there are more son songs out there than daughter ones?

My friend is having a girl.

Katy (or is it Katie?) by Tom Paxton

I second Teach Your Children. It was playing when I was born... and a filk of it won me a gorgeous ship when I won second place in a Puzzle Pirates song contest ;)

doncha mean hey little man?

John J. Ryan Back · 18 years, 3 months ago
Great Day was written right after one of the babies was born, IIRC.
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 3 months ago

Oh OK. Thought you meant the other because it was about a baby.

They're both the same song though. One I don't like. :)

yeah, but it's not *about* the baby. "hey little man" actually is.
